Vehicle Description
1964 Ford Falcon Sprint Convertible
The Ford Falcon was built by the Ford Motor Company from 1960
through 1970. During these years, the Falcon was offered in many
shapes and sizes to include two and four door sedans, two and four
door station wagons, two door hardtops, convertibles, sedan
deliveries and Rancheros. The original Mustang actually evolved
from the development of the Falcon. For the 1964 model year, Ford
added a Sprint Package, which gave the Falcon the Fairlane's 260ci
V8, a stiffer suspension, and a louder exhaust.
For consignment a Falcon Sprint with a V8, stiffer suspension, and
a Holley carb. This is a somewhat rare car due to the fact that the
Sprint package was only offered for 3 years, and not because it was
a bad car, but only because of the Mustang's success and Ford not
wanting the Falcon to overshadow the Mustang. This one is a driver,
but presents nicely, and drives fab!
Exterior
Bedecked in Raven Black (Nevermore! said Shakespeare) this car has
no rust, however, signs of prior bodywork at the bottom of the
passengers door are starting to make a peek-a-boo. The paint
presents very well and is miles deep. Take a deep dive into the fit
and finish and you will be impressed. From its paperclip shaped
trim spear starting from the front and leading to the rear of the
back quarter ending with a crescendo of chromed chevrons, we can
see some added excitement in the form of a turquoise pinstripe
directly above the spear. A stainless rocker trim runs from wheel
well to wheel well and ends at the rear wheel well which is decked
out with skirting in body matching Raven Black. The back panel of
this car utilizes turbine style round taillights which flank a
shiny badged with Sprint V8 and a runoff textured aluminum rear
trim. Both bumpers are pristine, as the white convertible top which
presents to us in excellent blemish and tear free form, with its
clear plastic rear window. This top is power actuated and goes up
and down with no issues. Magnum 500 wheels and tires are on all 4
corners.
Interior
Swinging one of the doors, it immediately shows off with its black
metal top sill Sprint badge in the center, aluminum horizontal
ribbed trim center piece, and some ribbed back vinyl on the bottom.
A handle and a window crank in shiny condition are in this sea of
textural and visual eye candy. Front low back vinyl buckets in
black with tuck and roll inserts and smooth bolsters have a thick
cream piping separating them. This carries through to the rear
seats, where see a bench version, in showroom condition. From the
back of the front buckets to the dash, a futuristic design center
console races past the buckets, and comes to a complete halt just
before the dash. The dash front in brushed aluminum matte finish
panels which frames above and below, a centrally located back
finished horizontal stripe at the midpoint of the metal. An
original radio which still works, is seen in the dash. On top is a
factory Ford dash mounted Sprint tachometer. Slightly faded back
carpet covers the floors, and an original steering wheel, well
preserved fronts this dash.
Drivetrain
Benefitting from a rebuilt 2-barrel Holley carb, which sit on top
of a 260ci V8 original to this car, are seeing a nicely preserved
unrestored engine bay. A 2-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic
transmission is on back and a Ford 8-inch rear with 3.25 gears is
the axle setup.
Undercarriage
All cleaned up and obviously garaged most of its life, this car has
no rust, is very sound structurally, and has independent front with
coil springs suspension, a leaf sprung back suspension, and power
drum brakes all around. A dual exhaust with polished chromed pipes
peek out in the rear of this car, but underneath are just
fiiiine-O-mite!
Drive-Ability
A super quick starter, smooth idle while she warms up, and we're
off! Nice power and pickup, fine handling and no inoperable devices
to speak of, even the top toggle. A truly fine ride, and power
steering, is just the right touch to operate.
To sum it up, a nice example of the 64 Fairlane with the rare
Sprint option added from the factory. 78,366 original miles, deep
black paint, and a snazzy interior. Come and get it!
