Vehicle Description
1964 Chevrolet Impala SS
A fair amount of the classics that come through the doors here at
Classic Auto Mall are of a caliber that is more show than actual
go. These are all wonderful cars, however when you were a kid did
you dream of trailering your car to shows, turning the key only
when the sun is shining, and only driving short distances if any
for fear the odometer would turn an important milestone? Bet you
did not, and there have been several consigners coming through our
door that are unloading their classics for that very reason, they
are tired of that routine.
If you want a great runner, you can hop in and drive it on any trip
short or long, and if it rains, roll the windows up! This is the
car for you, of you are a midcentury modern bow tie fan, and don't
want the hassle of rummaging through endless junkyards for parts,
or spending money on expensive repairs, the consigner has already
done this for you. A beautifully restored Chevrolet Impala, mild
Resto-Mod style with a rebuilt 327ci V8. With an effortless turn of
a key has this ticket ship launched...so make a timely visit to
Classic Auto Mall before it takes off.
Exterior
With the exterior paint which presents just beautifully in Maroon
we see straight panels, minding their gaps and plenty of nice trim.
Consigner stated it is a base coat and clear coat which is a mere 3
years old, and it looks marvelous! A big trim spear runs straight
and level just below the belt line through the length of the car.
Front and rear bumpers are re-chromed and mirror-like in their
finish. All additional trim has been re-polished or replaced with
OEM parts. The car rests nicely on 15-inch polished Torque Thrust
wide 5 spoke wheels and new tires (195/65R15's on front and
275/70R15's on back).
Interior
All newly restored and looking just like the showroom, the door
panels, seats and all trim is polished and in excellent condition.
Low back buckets for the front, and a wide rear bench complete with
working speaker on the rear are noted. The original dash in black
with a shiny aluminum machined swirl pattern strip that runs across
the bottom, is fronted by the original steering wheel. A factory
tachometer is attached to the steering column. Black carpet for the
floors is stain and fade free, and the headliner is mostly tight
all in black. Lest we forget a Hurst shifter rises form the center
console just before meeting the dash. Waaaaay back the trunk is
completely restored and just very nicely done.
Drivetrain
Believed to be original to this car (although we can only ascertain
this due to a manufacture date which coincides with the build of
this car), we see an orange block beauty in the form of a 327ci V8.
It has double hump heads bolted on either side topped with chrome
valve covers, and a rebuilt 4-barrel carb, and electronic ignition.
A rebuilt Muncie 4-speed manual tranny is attached to the rear of
this mill and puts power to the rear through a new driveshaft.
Undercarriage
Floorpans and trunk pans have been replaced and a very nice job was
performed in doing this. Then was all coated with epoxy. Frame is
solid, and we can see new drilled slotted rotors grabbed by power
actuated calipers to these discs. Shocks were replaced within the
last year, as was the power steering system. Turbo mufflers
evacuate gases quickly through dual exhaust.
Drive-Ability
This engine lit right up with a quick turn of the key, ran
smoothly, handled great and even sounded nice and throaty. We noted
the speedometer is in-operable, but the odometer still clicks off
the mileage. An overall great test ride.
Just a very fine example of the '64 Impala, mostly new OEM or
totally redone and rebuilt parts, she's a goer and a shower all in
one.
