Vehicle Description
Under the silky smooth Glasurit paint of this Nova SS are many
subtle body modifications, starting with the narrowed and tucked
front and rear bumpers, flush-mounted windshield and rear glass
over reshaped A-pillars. The fuel door was removed and access is
behind the hinged taillight. The grille at the base of the
windshield has been removed, as well as the wing window, door
handles, key locks and the drip rails. The power doors, windows and
fuel filler access are operated from Dakota Digital key fobs. The
battery has been moved to the trunk, and the key lock for the truck
was retained. The interior is light gray, with the leather bucket
power seats separated by a custom console that holds the Dakota
Digital controls for the four-corner air-ride suspension, Vintage
Air and Sony sound system. The dash is smoothed of all knobs and
gauges, until you turn the key on to reveal the digital gauges
nestled in the original housing. The dash, console and rear
armrests are tastefully accented with real black walnut, and the
tilt column is topped with a Billet Specialties leather-wrapped
wheel. The design of the powertrain came about with a leaning
toward total performance. The engine block started life a 400ci
that is bored to .030 and filled with a destroked 3.25-inch steel
crank, 6.25-inch H-beam Eagle rods and hypereutectic flat-top
pistons. The Air Flow Research 190 aluminum heads are operated by a
Competition Cams retrofit hydraulic roller cam, 280XFI, through
custom-length hardened push rods and roller rockers. All of this is
topped off with a Mass Flow port fuel-injection system that drinks
from an 18-gallon custom-built stainless-steel fuel tank with an
in-tank fuel pump. The power is sent to a Chevrolet overdrive 700R4
4-speed automatic transmission, then to the custom-built narrowed
8.8-inch Ford independent rear end, whose third member houses 3.70
gears, posi-traction and Dutchman axles. The suspension is fully
adjustable air ride with front and rear anti-sway bars controlled
by adjustable shocks, and it rolls on Billet Specialties wheels.
