The 1950 Ford Crestliner was the result of the Ford Motor Company’s desire to match Chevrolet’s hardtop models of the postwar era. The top-of-the-line 2-door sedan was distinguished by its vivid color sweep along the body sides. A limited edition, only 8,703 of these unique cars were produced in 1950 and helped save the struggling Ford Company.
The Crestliner came with standard fender skirts, and the two-tone color was repeated on the vinyl top, replicating the look of a convertible with the top up. To add even more flash, the “Crestliner” logo was scripted in gold finish on the front fenders.
This beautiful Ford is is excellent condition with every accessory imaginable, including a center light in the grill that turns with the wheels. It also has a four-post steering wheel with a rare F-center hub.
No expense was spared for the body-on restoration, and you’ll see there was never any rust anywhere. The owner added two dual-exhaust Cherry Bomb glasspack mufflers to run with the 239 cu in Flathead V8 with column shift and the 3-speed manual transmission with factory overdrive. There are also a Magic Aire heater and defroster, push-button radio with 6 presets and a stem-wind clock. Other accessories include a day/night mirror, compass with original manual, front bumper guards and bumper bars. The original owner’s manual as well as sales brochures also accompany the car.
The exterior gleams in Coronation Red Metallic and Black 2-tone paint and a black vinyl top. And, as you can see from the pictures, there has never been any rust or pitting. Same goes for the original chassis -- it’s in great condition and has no rust. The tires are 6.70/15 Firestone Deluxe Champion whitewalls with full wheel discs and, completing the sleek look, are steel wheels with full Ford Crestliner hubcaps. Five 6.70/15 Firestone Deluxe Champion whitewalls are included.
The deluxe dark red Bedford Cord and black leather interior is immaculate and in perfect condition, as are the trunk and engine bay. This car runs down the highway exceptionally well with no vibration or noise. Hopefully, the new owner will treat it as well as the last.
