Vehicle Description
1938 LaSalle, model 5019. Owner is selling due to age and health
considerations. Car is a solid number 3 car, cosmetically
reconditioned over the years. No chrome or missing parts. Car runs
great with just under 63,000 miles on the clock. Due to vehicle
age, mileage is listed as 'EXEMPT' on title. Inspections welcome &
encouraged. The history as owner knows it. Car originally owned by
Theodore C. Merkel who owned for 2 years untll his passing in 1940
and car was listed in his will to his two sisters Ester and Anna.
Have a copy of the original will documenting this. Then the Tri
county Petrolium company in Defiance, PA owned it for years. Then a
Mr. Eugene Filsler of Dillsburg, PA who sold it to Jeff Bowers
(also of Dillsburg) then consigned to Wessels used cars in
Dillsburg. One more owner in Etters PA, who's name escapes owner at
the time of listing from whom current owner purchased the car in
2011. Current owner has one oil change sticker from H. E. Lee and
Sons from 6-27-1972 indicating 56,672 miles at that time. Many new
parts since 2011. Radiator, plugs, some paint touch up and exhaust
manifolds. Car shines and shows very well. The bad- transmission
synchro from 2nd to 3rd a little worn. However owner has a spare
transmission that goes with the car. Also has a new leaf spring for
it not yet installed. Clock works but not original to car. Running
boards replaced before 2011, rubber okay, but at some point will
need replacing by new owner. Car does not have proper era Jack for
the car. Interior- original door panels, headliner and seats, front
seat reupholstered. Paint, 7.5 to 8 out of 10. Bias tires are good.
Car runs as a 1938 should. V8 powered flathead. All lights work.
Gas gauge goes to half. Oil and charging gauges do work. By
definition, this is NOT a number one or two car but IS a very nice
solid number 3 car. Really nicer than most number 3's you see at
shows today.
