By the time 1961 rolled around, it was time for a refreshed look
for the Impala. After two very successful generations, the new
third generation Impala (the fifth generation for the Bel Air line)
had to be something fresh and different that would really knock the
socks off of prospective buyers! Chevrolet delivered with an
all-new design for 1961, and thus the Bubble Top Impala came to
be.
This 1961 is offered in the killer color combo of red and white,
both inside and out. The clean look is both completed and update by
a nice set of later Chevy rally wheels with chrome centers and
beauty rings. An extremely mild custom, this car sticks largely to
its original roots with a few tasteful changes including side exit
exhaust and the previously mentioned wheels. Considering that this
car is an older restoration, the exterior shows quite well. The
paint has a brilliant shine to it, and the new exhaust tips look
great.
The interior is in great shape and is the perfect match to the
exterior colors. While this is an older restoration, it has been
kept up with properly and is ready for some cruising! The interior
has been recently cleaned, and still shows great. The aftermarket
tachometer is a fun upgrade that has a period correct finish on the
casing to help it blend in with the original interior
components.
Under the hood sits an early 1960s Chevrolet 348 V8. While this
would be correct original equipment for this car, it isn't the
original engine as the casting numbers come back to 1963-1965 era.
It runs well and has a great sound to it! The new exhaust with
Flowmaster mufflers adds a slightly aggressive tone to the engine.
Hooked up to the engine is a GM 700R4 transmission; a convenient
and worthwhile upgrade. New front disc brakes ensure that this car
stops on a dime, and a new steering rag joint ensures tight
steering from the power steering system.
If you're looking for a classic weekend cruiser that stands out in
the crowd, this may just be the car for you! These Bubble Tops are
storied classics with a vintage look hard to find anywhere
else.
