Vehicle Description

You already know that RK Motors Charlotte has a thing for Chevrolet's most famous muscle car. From their long list of options and stacks of documentation to their hundreds of cubic inches of big block bliss, we've brought you some of the most mind-blowing, potent and flat-out brutal Chevelles the market has ever seen! And from incredible customs to rare classics, we continue to be your number one source for anything that starts with the letters C, H, E and V. After all, what's not to love about a classic that defines the dominant era of Chevrolet ingenuity, showcases an unparalleled era in American culture and represents the best era of Detroit's manufacturing might? Absolutely nothing; and that's why this clean drop-top, with its original 396, correct Muncie 4-speed and classy red-on-black aesthetics, is the perfect piece for the muscle car fan who enjoys hitting the road AND the show!

GRADE A APPEAL

The beneficiary of a professional, ground-up restoration that was completed in mid-2009, this real-deal Super Sport wears clean and solid metal under correct Regal Red 2-stage. Recognizing the car's significance as a real-deal SS396, the restorers decided to keep trim and ornamentation just as the General specified. Out front, a black Super Sport grille centers a prominent "SS396" emblem between a mirrored bumper, clear parking lamps and bright T3 headlights. At the top of the car, a stainless-trimmed Super Sport Hood fronts like-new glass, which is in caged polished wipers, polished frames and correct Black vinyl. At the sides of that glass, correct ornamentation and a bowtie-branded mirror frame traditional door handles, dent-free wheel lips and correct Super Sport rocker guards. And out back, a color-keyed, "CHEVELLE" branded valance hangs 2-tone taillights and a second "SS396" emblem above a second mirrored bumper.

SS396

Glance under this Chevy's hood and you'll find an original, 396 cubic inch L35 big block that's been fully rebuilt, completely restored and thoroughly sorted! Branded with a familiar 3855961 casting number, a correct "EDH" suffix stamp and a matching 131966 partial VIN, this legendary engine utilizes hydraulic lifters, a forged steel crank and closed-chamber, oval-port heads to turn beefy 10.25 to 1 compression into an easy 325 horsepower. At the top of the mill, a black and chrome, single-snorkel air cleaner feeds oxygen to a reliable Holley 4-barrel that's centered behind a tagged stainless fuel line. That air/fuel mixture travels into a painted Holley intake, which rides between correct heads and polished valve covers. At the bottom of those heads, fully restored exhaust manifolds send spent gases into high performance, true-dual pipes. At the back of those manifolds, a traditional points distributor shoots spark through fresh Packard TV R Suppression cables. And in front of those cables, a factory radiator swills water through pliable GM hoses and correct tower clamps. Aesthetically, the spotless big block is covered in a traditional coat of Chevy Orange paint that contrasts very well to the car's satin inner fenders and glossy red exterior. And everything, from the big engine's bright decals and authentic Delco Moraine brake booster to its correct alternator and new Delco battery topper, has been professionally installed and completely detailed.

JUST RIGHT

What good would a killer big block be without a tough drivetrain and solid suspension to back it up? Behind the car's thundering 396, a proven Muncie 4-speed, which wears a Muncie (P) assembled on December (12) 1st (01) build stamp, sends power to a tough GM 12-bolt and correct 3.55 gears. That fully marked drivetrain is held off the ground by a restored, tagged and marked chassis, which features fresh shocks, modern power steering and rebuilt power drum brakes. At the center of that chassis, aluminized exhaust pipes gases from the aforementioned manifolds to aggressive Flowmaster mufflers. At the corners of the car, painted steelies twist 7.75-14 Firestone Deluxe Champion redlines around simulated mag hubcaps. And overall, the bottom of this awesome A-Body has been restored to the same high standards as its solid exterior panels and clean engine compartment.

AS IT WAS

Naturally, this Chevelle's thorough restoration included the installation of a correct Black interior. Firm bench seats hang old school Fisher lap belts above fresh floor mats, stainless-trimmed foot pedals and a contoured shifter. A familiar Super Sport dash, equipped with deluxe gauges, is augmented by a small tachometer. A correct AM/FM radio is present and accounted for. And in front of the driver, a classy Chevelle steering wheel laps a fixed column.
