Vehicle Description
Powered by the venerable 283 CI V-8 engine with automatic
transmission, this 1961 Impala Convertible is one of those dream
cars that's enjoyable to drive thanks to power steering and power
brakes, making it easy to maneuver in any situation. Presented in
Roman Red with the proper red-and-white duo-tone interior, this
restored Impala hosts a number of sweet extras like a power top,
pushbutton radio, twin side-view mirrors, dual antennas and rear
bumper guards, just to name a few striking details. Rolling on wide
whitewall tires with red-painted steel wheels and full-size wheel
covers, it is an absolutely exquisite example of one of the most
popular Chevrolets ever built. Popular indeed, Chevrolet produced
64,624 Impala convertibles in 1961, marking it as hugely successful
with infinite desirability. Following the successes of the 1958-60
Impalas, the 1961 Impala featured a major restyling with a
squared-off, edgier styling than its predecessors, which indicated
things to come from 1960s automotive styling and design. The 1961
Chevrolets were dripping with smart styling, predicting the trends
other manufacturers would follow as well: crisp, low and long
designs that were accentuated by elongated horizontal lines and
arranged elements exaggerating the length and width of the actual
car. This would also be the year when Chevrolet would solidify its
commitment to performance with the introduction of the SS option.
Introduced late in 1961, however, only a handful of SS cars were
built; but, like the design expression behind the new Chevrolets,
it indicated the future. This Impala, with its various options and
accessories, the color combination and superbly detailed condition,
stuns the crowd as well today as it did when it was new. Perfect
for cruising a favorite highway or stopping into a local drive-in
for a burger, this Impala convertible is a dream car that's waiting
to come true.
