The De Tomaso Pantera is by any measure an exotic, a sleek wedge of pure sex that surely confused the hell out of customers who saw it alongside the Comets and Cougars and Continentals in Lincoln-Mercury showrooms. Yet it doesn't get nearly the same love as the Ferrari's and Lamborghini's and other Italian supercars of the early 1970's. That's a shame, because the Pantera is far more affordable than anything else that rolled out of Maranello or Sant'Agata Bolognese.

For consignment a piece of that sex in wedge form in a respray of the original Orange, from its since 1976, California Owner. A numbers matching car which has been worked with plenty of extras and now shows dyno results at 508hp! Stock seats along with carbon fiber accent panels, and you are about to lose your 100MPH virginity.

Exterior
An original Orange respray shows nicely on the exterior of this low wedge shaped car. It appears as though the front of the car is just slightly lighter in color than the rest of the car, but it still presents beautifully. All panels are straight, and the only fault is on the driver's rear pillar as it heads rearward, there is some rough spots in the finish. Hidden headlights, and dual rounded over corner black bumpers are leading the way. As we move rearward nice shiny trim surrounds all the windows, black sport side view mirrors are on either side, and on the driver's side a gas filler cap in camouflaged into a ribbed panel in black. Badging is nice and black, as well as a cloisonn� Ghia badge to pay homage to the designer. A sleek rear trunk lid actually opens up to a larger than you think trunk due to the mid-engine setup. The trunk is perfect with a wool felt liner. Actual Torino Tom Tjaarda wheels are all around and are wrapped by Michelin Pilot 225/40R17 front tires and 335/35R17 rear wide rubbers.

Interior
Sporty comfortable utilitarian with a hint of extra would best describe the all black interior. Dual black vinyl buckets with Crow 4 point belts flank a center console with a shifter in a chromed grid style bezel. As the center continues upward and at a rakish angle, a carbon fiber panel houses various toggles and gauges aimed toward the driver. A simple instrument cluster with a circular tachometer, and speedometer, are fronted by the original steering wheel. Nice black clean carpet floods the floors and is covered by carpet floor mats with a Torino logo. Talk about slipping into something sexy...

Drivetrain
A numbers matching professionally built 351ci Cleveland V8 which has been stroked to 408ci and has Aussie aluminum heads, roller rockers, a hydraulic roller cam, MSD ignition and all topped off with a 4-barrel Demon carb. Backing this up is a ZF 5-speed manual transmission, which has been totally rebuilt and polished, drives upgraded half shafts. All this sits within a freshly painted black gloss engine bay. Up front under the second storage area we note a Fluidyne radiator with dual fans, polished SS tanks and coolant tubes with green strip hose. Oh God! baby!!

Undercarriage
The underneath is just gorgeous with all polished aluminum surfaces, and a black frame and floor tubs. All suspension has been stripped and repainted with new bushings and an upgraded 1-inch sway bars and balls gambles. Front and rear QA1 coil over shocks and springs along with Wilwood 12-inch vented rotors and 6 piston calipers. Finishing off with a speaker for the exhaust in the form of a custom install stainless steel dual exhaust with 4 tailpipes. Nice ass.

Drive-Ability
Going down nearly to street level, a climb in and lit this candle and we're off in a flash. Rail like handling, and plenty of power we will never fully realize on our test area. It ran very smoothly and sounded like a champ. Interior has surprisingly lots of room, but then again it was an American car. We found the heater to be nonfunctional.

Best of show in a 2010 John Force annual car show, plenty of upgrades and a dyno verified 508hp @ 485 ft. lbs. torque. A refresh on the orange, a rebuild and expansion of the power plant and transmission. A mere 13.2 seconds will get you to 100MPH. An all buttoned up example of an orange sex wedge. Arrivederci!
