The previous owners of this stunning Jaguar purchased it the week
they were married in 1964...not a practical decision, but one that
brought great joy to them over the years. They were living in Costa
Mesa, California, and took many driving trips before they returned
home to the Chicago area.
It was always kept garaged and spotless. They often went for ice
cream with one son sitting between the seats and another one in the
wife's lap. Amazingly ice cream was actually consumed in this car!
The Jag was maintained by the husband beautifully and always got
many compliments. The car was entered in many car shows, and always
came home with top honors.
In 1997 they decided to have the car undergo a complete
restoration. The husband, an engineer by trade and owner of a
company specializing in mechanical solutions for the steel
industry, was a perfectionist and wanted to return his car to as
near original condition as possible. This three year project
included a full rotisserie restoration of the body and chassis,
rebuilding of all mechanical systems, engine and transmission.
In the fall of 2000 the family had the pleasure of participating in
the International Jaguar Show that was held in their hometown in
Tennessee. It was a magic time to be a part of the gathering in
this picturesque town. Jaguar owners came from around the world
with almost every year and model represented. The show proved to be
a memorable moment, including a feature article in USA today about
family, the car and Franklin, TN.
Another memorable moment came early one Sunday morning when they
were driving on the interstate when a State Trooper put his lights
on and pulled them over. He told them it was such a beautiful car
that he just had to see it up close!
This car was dearly cherished and entered it in many local British
Car club shows. Though the members were friends, they all said they
would get frustrated when this beauty showed up and won top honors.
The husband passed away in May of 2018 after a tough battle with
cancer. His family hopes the next owner of this car will appreciate
his meticulous attention to detail and honor his memory by enjoying
ownership as much as he did.
