Vehicle Description
This matching-numbers 2008 Shelby GT500 is the only convertible
Super Snake prototype of the first-generation Shelby. Prototype
#003 is powered by a 5.4-liter V8 engine producing 605hp and paired
to a 6-speed manual transmission. This car has the optional Eibach
race suspension that allows it to be lowered, and has never been
tracked. This prototype has hand-cut Baer 6-piston front calipers;
not the standard production pieces, which were hand-painted at
Shelby Automobiles. The exterior is finished in Grabber Orange and
it received a non-standard, show-quality paint job, including clear
coating of the engine bay area. There is a hand-laid fiberglass
hood with hand-cut hood vents, which varies from later production.
It features a black convertible top, HID lamps and received
non-standard sound-deadening that was not available to production
Shelbys. This original Super Snake convertible is the first to
feature stripes at the top of the windshield. The black interior
has a Shaker 1000 stereo. In addition, several early pieces on the
car, such as the Alcoa wheels - with a coating not found in later
production Super Snake wheels - and an early cold-air intake
configuration. Designated as a show car at Ford Motor Company, this
is one of very few prototypes built that year to receive a one-off
production status at Ford. Every step of production was
photographed, along with all broadcast Build Sheets collected. This
vehicle was special-ordered through the Ford VIP program and used
for various Shelby and non-Shelby sponsored shows to promote the
Shelby Super Snake for Carroll Shelby. It was owned by the former
Director of Shelby and is well-documented. It had the designation
"Shelby Show Car" during its production at Ford. As such,
production was documented from a roll of sheet metal at the Ford
factory, through its assembly and special paint job. When it
arrived at Shelby in Las Vegas, its production as a Super Snake was
completely documented. Included are over 1,000 pictures of its
build, as well as the Shelby factory build video. This car was used
as part of the training video on how to build the Super Snake, and
pictures of build were included. The sun visor was signed by
Carroll Shelby at the Las Vegas facility. Included with this car is
the signed hood with the signatures of Shelby officers and
production team, a book from Ford Motor Company that has all Build
Sheets and photos, two DVDs of the entire build, factory car cover
and the Ford VIP order form. This Super Snake prototype has 5,400
actual miles.
