Vehicle Description
Sure, there are plenty of fine looking customized rides out there,
but this 1955 Mercury Montclair Lead Sled will stand out in any
automotive company. The most stellar of street machines will leave
you staring, but this one carries a visual punch so powerful that
it will likely have you doing a double take while wondering if
you've just entered into an augmented reality.
This is a ride that will no doubt pull focus wherever it goes. Its
distinctive exterior carries an array of skillful modifications
that create an unparalleled, custom appearance, making it seem like
this Mercury came from both the past and the future at the same
time. The assembly of chrome below a pair of modified headlights is
configured like no other on the road, with two rows of horizontally
placed spheres each cresting a bumper of their own. The elongated
rear roofline slopes downward to a stretched pair of rear fenders
and trunk area, and an added continental kit puts the spare tire on
display in a color-matched enclosure between a pair of frenched
taillights. A coat of magnetic Orange Pearl paint is draped over
the exterior, with just the right amount of flake added to make it
seem like the car is nearly pulsating when exposed to sunlight and
it's in top shape, with an excellent shine and smooth texture.
Inside the doors is an eye catching orange interior that's chock
full of great touches. A pair of plush two tone buckets straddle a
custom one piece console that extends the length of the cabin,
bracketed by the two rear buckets and looming over an expanse of
clean carpet in the process. The billet steering wheel wears a
color matched cover and sits on a chrome tilting column and the
chrome fan shaped instrument cluster just beyond it reflects the
styling sensibilities of the mid-'50s while carrying a full
complement of AutoMeter gauges. An anti-theft device has also been
added - a wise move considering the temptation this one of a kind
vehicle presents. The trunk area features just the detailed
appearance you'd expect, based on the rest of the car, with carpet
lining its floor and a neatly covered spare sitting in its vertical
position. The added climate control system blows through a series
of vents seamlessly recessed into the dash and an AM/FM/CD stereo
with iPod connectivity is on hand to provide a quality audio
experience.
There's an awful lot to stare at beneath the hood, where an
enhanced 302 cubic inch V8 sits surrounded by a collection of color
matched surfaces, including the firewall, inner fenders, battery
enclosure and air cleaner. The small block is now fed by a FiTech
fuel injection system that provides substantial adjustability and
exhales into a pair of short tube headers leading out to a full
exhaust that both minimizes backpressure and sends a nice, deep
note out of the tailpipes peeking out from underneath that one of a
kind rear bumper. The 302 teams with a 4-speed automatic overdrive
transmission to equip this stunningly modified classic with engine
sparing low revs on the highway. Power steering makes for
effortless maneuverability and power disc brakes at all four
corners provide fade resistant stopping ability. The quartet of 15"
half moon wheels wrapped with BF Goodrich whitewalls are in perfect
keeping with this Mercury's unique combination of new and
vintage.
Offering a skillfully modified, singular appearance and a
well-configured set of amenities inside the cockpit, this 1955
Mercury Montclair Lead Sled has to be seen to be fully appreciated.
