1969 MERCURY COUGAR XR-7 C-761 Presented here is a 1969 Mercury
Cougar XR-7 in excellent condition, produced on July 8th, 1969 from
the plant in Dearborn, Michigan. When it comes to alternative
performance cars, the Mercury Cougar is at the top of the list. For
some strange reason, the Cougar has always been treated as a
forgotten stepchild when it should have been given the same respect
and admiration as the Mustang. In fact, many enthusiasts believe it
should be given more admiration, as the Cougar was always better
equipped and outfitted with more luxury options than its popular
cousin. There were only 100,069 Cougars were produced in 1969. Of
that, only 27,942 were designated XR-7 models. Because many Cobra
Jet Cougars were parted out years ago by Mustang owners for their
engines, they are extremely hard to find today. This particular
Cougar does feature the 428ci Cobra Jet Ram Air V-8 engine
concealed with factory optioned hood pins and mated to the 4-barrel
carburetor. Features a 3.00 Traction-Loc axle ratio locking
differential, Power brakes with front discs, and C-6 Cruise-O-Matic
transmission. A rare sight, it also comes with the original window
sticker! The exterior features Bright Blue Metallic paint with the
interior dressed in Black leather bucket seats. An option more and
more desirable, it has factory air conditioning that has been
upgraded to modern R-134 specifications. Includes color-keyed
driver's mirror, Philco AM radio, Tinted glass, Styled steel
wheels, and BF Goodrich radial tires. All this information can be

note: This XR-7 hardtop was one of 1,266 with this paint code, 286
with this paint/trim combo, 365 with this engine/trans codes, 4,067
ordered from this DSO, and 504 with Ram Air induction. This car
drives 100 percent better than its Mustang brethren because,
although it shares the same Cobra Jet power, its wheelbase is three
inches longer, which gives it a far more comfortable ride, and it
has a far more luxurious interior. Once you've driven a Cobra Jet
Cougar, you just don't want to go back and drive a Cobra Jet
