Cincy Classic Cars is proud to offer this Stunning 1978 Factory W72 4 Speed Y88 Gold Special Edition Trans AM which has been nicely restored. This TA was purchased new in FT. Worth Texas and remained in Texas for 35 years then went to Tennessee for 5 years then recently to Ohio and has only had 3 owners since new. This special TA is 1 of only 1267 Factory 4 speed W72 Y88 Gold Special Edition TA's made in 1978. This TA is loaded with sought after factory options with a MSRP of $9329. This documented Trans Am comes with its original factory build sheet and PHS documents showing it was a factory Y88 Gold SE 400/4 speed with desired factory Gold Fisher T - Tops. This Y88 comes with its original W72 Pontiac 400 engine and its original 4 speed manual transmission, see photographed vin stamps. This special Y88 TA features a beautiful professional repaint in factory Solar Gold, a fully restored absolutely gorgeous Camel Deluxe Cloth interior, the original factory 4 speed manual transmission and 400 engine, and PHS documents and factory build sheet. This Trans Am has no visible rust anywhere and is very solid with great lines and gaps and shows no rust repairs or patch jobs. There is no bubbling or cracked paint anywhere on the body. The underside is original and very solid with no rust anywhere. There are no rust concerns anywhere on the frame, floors, rockers, trunk, or tail panel. The underside has no touch ups or repairs or patches and no cheap spray paint. This Trans Am is finished in the beautiful and desirable color combinations of Y88 Solar Gold (code 50) over Camel deluxe cloth interior. This is the factory color scheme as verified on the trim tag pictured above and included PHS docs and factory build sheet. These special low production Gold Special Edition 4 Speed Trans Am's are some of the most sought after collectible TA's on the market. They continue to increase in value and desirability.
Exterior
The Gold exterior is in beautiful fully restored condition. This Trans Am features a repaint in Factory Solar Gold paint which is in excellent condition and shows very well. This TA has all original sheet metal with no patches or repairs and the decals were replaced after the repaint and look like new on the car. The paint is in wonderful condition and has a high gloss and smooth touch and there are no signs of visible rust anywhere on the body or underneath and both bumpers are in great shape with no flaking paint. There is no bubbling paint or any signs of rust on the body and the metal is all original sheet metal with no signs or rust repairs. The underside is honest and rust free with no patches or repairs or touch ups or cheap spray paint. The BF Goodrich tires have good tread left and the 8" Snowflake wheels are restored originals with newer center caps and lug nuts. All weather stripping and window sweeps are in great condition. Trunk is very solid and clean with an original style trunk mat, original space saver spare tire, the original inflator bottle, original jack, and the original t top bags. The shaker is still closed and has not been cut on as per factory design. The factory gold Y88 fisher t tops are in excellent condition.
Interior
The Camel deluxe cloth interior of this Trans Am has been fully restored. The Lombardy cloth seat covers are in like new condition and were recently made out of NOS material. They are in near perfect shape and are very comfortable and look just like the original ones as they are made from the same factory material. New aftermarket seat covers are not close to being correct and do not like the original covers. The carpet has been replaced and is like new. The original dash is in excellent condition with no warping, fading, and has no cracks. The dash bezel is original and looks beautiful in the car and was refinished by Randy Combs and looks new. The original style cassette stereo works and sounds great in the car and very importantly the dash has not been cut on for a modern stereo install. The rear speakers are still housed in their insulation boxes. The door panels are like new and were recently replaced and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The headliner was just replaced and is like new. The package tray is original and in great shape with correct factory speaker grills. The power windows work well but the power door locks do not work properly. The exterior lights and gauges work as they should, although the tach is stuck. The horn works but the cigarette lighter does not. Turn signals work properly. This is a factory AC car and all the AC components are hooked up and still in place and the Freon was changed to R134. The AC works and is cold. This car has not been smoked in; there is no aroma what so ever and look how clean that ashtray is. The seat belt light is staying on.
Mechanical
This Trans Am is in great mechanical condition and runs and drives very well. The original numbers matching 4 speed manual transmission and Pontiac 400 W72 engine are still in the car with matching numbers vin stamps photos in the gallery. New exhaust was recently added with V Force mufflers and Cat. converter which gives this TA a nice rumble at idle and cruising speeds, and new exhaust tips were also added. In the video one can observe this car running and driving nicely. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. It starts right away every time, idles well, and runs great. The brakes do not pull and stop as they should and new brake hoses were added front and rear. New shocks and end links were also added. The clutch feels good and shifting is smooth and easy. The emergency brake works well and holds the car in place. Also, the engine is very clean and nicely detailed as one can see from the photos.
