Mercedes-AMG has always had their sights set on Porsche's 911 as
both a benchmark and competition, creating increasingly upgraded
sports cars to match its rival. One of their latest creations is
this: the 2018 Mercedes-AMG GTC. The tried-and-true formula of
adding more power and increasingly handling is employed with gusto
and births a convertible that can hang with the much larger (and
more performance oriented) competition.
AMG has always been known for putting mega powerhouses under the
hood and this car is no exception. When you lift the hood, you're
greeted with an unfamiliar sight of an engine pushed back
incredibly far towards the firewall. The German engineers
ultimately decided that in order to increase handling, they placed
the engine behind the front axle for better weight distribution
thus better handling. With all the power coming from the engine,
that is a well-thought-out and appreciated concept, because this
monster of an engine produces a staggering 550 horsepower and
502lb/ft of torque. With power sent through a lightning-quick
7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission, when the fury
approaches redline, a quick click of the shift paddles extends the
thunderous engine's exhaust note until you recede your foot from
the throttle pedal.
Standard from the Mercedes-AMG factory includes exotic items such
as a dry-sump lubrication system, AMG Electronic Limited Slip
Differential, Carbon Fiber driveshaft, AMG adaptive Sport
Suspension, AMG's High-Performance Exhaust system, and other
performance-related options listed on the window sticker in the
photo gallery. Some parts are shared between the GT C and the GT R,
AMG's hardcore track performer. Items such as wide rear fenders,
rear wheel steering, taller first and 7th gears, and electronically
controlled limited-slip differential. Performance seats keep you
planted inside the car during aggressive driving that are heated.
Dual zone climate control is standard, as it PARKTRONIC, AIRSCARF
Ventilated Headrests, Power Retractable soft-top, and other
features.
This particular GT C Roadster was optioned with the Magnetite Black
metallic paint, Macchiato Beige Exclusive Nappa Leather interior,
Carbon Fiber Trim in Silver Matte finish, AMG Performance Full
DINAMICA (Alcantara) Steering Wheel, Seat Belts in Silver,
DISTRONIC PLUS, 19"/20" AMG Cross-spoke Forged Wheels in Titanium
Finish, Black Soft Top, and Burmerster High-End Surround Sound
System. Including destination and delivery along with other fees,
the total MSRP was $170,815.
Driven only 1,342 miles since purchased, the owner decided that she
wanted to drive something else as her everyday car. When the
Mercedes arrived at Canepa, being a new car there weren't any
surprises. Looking as though it just rolled off the showroom floor,
the GT C Roadster is ready to excite its driver and passenger with
miles of headroom and with enough horsepower and torque to
embarrass many other performance cars today.
