Vehicle Description
Mother Mopar has produced some of the most unique cars of the 20th
century, and while many old Mopars may not have drawn positive
attention "back in the day," they have finally and solidly come
into their own. The Plymouth Valiant was initially offered as a
counterpart to the mid-1960s Dodge Darts, but by 1972 the Valiant
and Dart were one in the same. A variant of the Valiant, the Scamp
was first introduced in 1971 as the Plymouth equivalent to the
Dodge Dart Swinger.
The most notable difference between a Scamp and a Valiant is
wheelbase. The Scamps were all two-doors, and sat on a longer
wheelbase. It was more or less a Dart Swinger with a Valiant front
clip. This 1972 Plymouth Scamp is in exceptional shape, and is an
overall solid vehicle. It has definitely been repainted in the
past, and it looks like the vinyl top has been replaced in the past
as well. Both the paint and the top are the correct original colors
for this car, but the paint is showing some signs of age. Sitting
on a set of factory 14" Ralleye wheels, this Scamp looks sharp! For
a Mopar enthusiast in the market for an affordable weekend fun car,
look no further.
Under the hood is a Chrysler 318 V8. This is the perfect choice for
a small Mopar A-body such as this, as it provides both reliability
and plenty of power for a car this size. The 318 in this car
absolutely purrs, and the factory-equipped air conditioning blows
cold! The engine and bay appear to have seen maintenance, but it
would not be accurate to describe this car as restored. The 318 is
hooked up to a Chrysler 904 3-speed automatic transmission. While
the engine casting date is correct for the build date of this car,
the transmission appears to be a different year. This is an
affordable turn-key cruiser! The only known defect is a leaking
power steering gearbox, but a new unit is included with the
sale.
The interior has lots of original parts in place that are still in
great condition, but it would be surprising if it was all original.
The dash pad is in excellent condition with vibrant color and
minimal sun damage. The seat cloth has some stains here and there,
but is free of major damage and most enthusiasts would agree that
the seats do not need to be recovered. Overall, the interior is in
remarkable condition for a car that has not been restored and is
ready to be enjoyed!
It isn't very often one comes across an old Mopar that hasn't seen
a full restoration. This is one of those rare opportunities! It has
had some repairs here and there, as expected for a vehicle this
age, but still retains many good original parts and has that
"original feel" that restored cars always seem to lack. If you're a
Mopar man or woman on the hunt for an affordable weekend fun car,
or an affordable classic driver, your search is over with this
Scamp!
