The E39 or fourth generation of 5-series built by BMW was built
from 1995 through 2003 with subtle cosmetic changes and packages
offered including a couple highly powerful variants. It was also
the first time BMW used high amounts of aluminum in its components.
It was also one of the very first vehicles to have curtain airbags
standard for head and side impact crashes.
