Vehicle Description
Wrapping glorious, jet-inspired fiberglass around a correct Blue
Flame 6-cylinder, a correct Powerglide 2-speed and a full roster of
options, this Corvette is about the closest thing Chevrolet dealers
offered to a 1950s touring car. Staying solid and timeless thanks
to a detailed, ground-up restoration, the car was subtly upgraded
for participation in the inaugural Mille Miglia North America
Tribute 2011. And if you're ready to fall in love with an
enticingly early edition of America's favorite sports car, it's
your opportunity to drive the dream!
MOTORAMA MAGIC
The beneficiary of a detailed, ground-up restoration, this awesome
Vette, one of only 3,640 produced in 1954, is a spectacular
throwback to timeless MoTown Mojo! The car's composed fiberglass
body is sinuous and solid, placing literal emphasis on Space Age
design and appeal. And its classic Pennant Blue paint is clean,
glossy and awesomely unique.
Chevrolet's 1954 Corvette is essentially an improved version of the
brand's hand-built '53 model: a sensation that not only set a
design precedent for American cars, but also began a rich legacy
that's now 66 years strong. At the front of this cool classic, a
polished tag stand guards an aggressive grille, which floats
between screened Lucas headlights, stainless-trimmed parking lamps
and jet-inspired fender guards. Between those fenders, a crisp
header emblem leads the eye to curved glass, which is seated in
polished stainless, cleared by polished wipers and capped by Tan
vinyl. Below that top, a simple mirror reflects snazzy stainless
rocker guards and stylized "Chevrolet" scripts. And at the back of
the car, a cased tag floats between polished valance trim, polished
exhaust tips, jet-inspired taillights and two more fender
guards.
THE HOTTEST FLAME BURNS BLUE
Following a correct 3835911 casting number with an April (D) 12th
(12) 1954 (4) casting date, this Corvette's 235 cubic inch engine
seals its coveted Blue Flame status with a 150 horsepower
6-cylinder (YG) built in Flint (F) Michigan in 1954 (54) assembly
stamp. Utilizing a high-lift truck cam, mechanical lifters and a
higher compression ratio, this version of Chevrolet's storied
workhorse forged a high performance, low budget blueprint that has
served as the groundwork for virtually every hot rod Chevy of the
last half century! Of course, all hot rodders know 12 volts are
better than six, so this otherwise retro Vette has been upgraded
accordingly, with a big electric pusher fan quite literally serving
as the tip of that iceberg. Since Chevy's manual gear grinders
couldn't handle the output of the Corvette's 'high pressure' motor,
GM's acclaimed Powerglide 2-speed was the only transmission
offered. Torque flows from that stalwart gearbox, branded with a
correct 3702602 casting number, to a familiar Hypoid axle that's
loaded with standard, 3.55 gears. That drivetrain hangs in GM's
sturdy X-Frame chassis. Both stops and turns are manual affairs. At
the center of the car, an aluminized exhaust system uses modern
performance mufflers to provide a 'just right' vintage cruiser
soundtrack. And at the corners of the car, bright red steelies spin
6.70-15 Firestone Deluxe Champion whitewalls around ornate,
bowtie-branded saucers.
MANDATORY TAN
Back in 1954, Pennant Blue meant Tan, and Tan meant Pennant Blue.
The only way to get a Tan Corvette interior was to order Pennant
Blue paint, and the only way to get a Pennant Blue Corvette was
with a Tan interior. Stitched and contoured side panels frame broad
bucket seats that have been upgraded with both leather and heat. In
front of those seats, an elegant dash centers an optional signal
seeking radio amid classy gauges and a factory heater. Below that
dash, sleek Daytona carpet floats color-keyed mats around a modern
fire extinguisher and a simple shifter. There's a modern,
MP3-capable audio system that's within arm's reach. And the driver
spins a traditional steering wheel around a polished horn ring
that's finished with an intricate Corvette centerpiece.
From triumph and ingenuity to turmoil and evolution, no car
celebrates the story of America better than the Chevrolet Corvette.
This first-generation roadster is a charming throwback to simpler,
more grandiose times when, in car design, emotion and adrenaline
were far more important than practicality and safety. A time most
car enthusiasts romanticize and long for. Well friends, here's your
chance to stop longing and start living!
