Vehicle Description
This 1969 Oldsmobile Cutlass S greets the present looking very much
as it did when it first debuted an entire half century ago and even
after all these years it provides a reassuringly solid driving
experience. If you're searching for an open-air classic that's
ready to roll and can be brought to top form with some well-focused
attention, this is one to check out.
It's easy to see why classic car enthusiasts are drawn to this
third generation of Cutlasses. It's a great rendition of the model
- broad and powerful-looking. Just the year before this '69 rolled
out, Olds added a more aggressive, muscular overall appearance,
while also making a concerted effort to make sure the model didn't
look like the other offerings in the marketplace. Those long
expanses of chrome trim on each side that run across the tops of
the fenders and doors, as well as the distinctive, wide-spread dual
headlights in front, are styling cues that really set it apart. The
deep green exterior provides a convincingly stock appearance, with
white accenting stripes on the hood that sit under a strong
clearcoat to create a uniform texture. A thorough detailing would
elevate the overall impact of the paint, but even at present it's a
great shade. There are some signs of wear on the power white
convertible top, but it raises into place without issue and its
frame still lines up nicely.
Climb inside and you'll see an inviting white vinyl interior that
remains in good shape, with bucket seats up front and a bench seat
in back that are ready to welcome you and your crew to new chapters
of motoring adventures. The center console between the two buckets
is in clean condition, providing some welcome interior storage
space. Just beyond the factory steering wheel is a fresh expanse of
black dashboard, housing a trio of factory gauges that are still
readable with their clear lenses. Above them, you'll notice that
the dash pad, so often a vulnerable area - especially with black
upholstery installed in a UV-exposed convertible - is unwarped,
level and shows no splits across its surface. The running form of
this Olds makes it well suited to weekend getaways and there's
plenty of luggage space at your disposal - a nice dividend yielded
by its relatively lengthy wheelbase.
This Olds's impressive level of originality can also be seen under
the hood, where the 350 cubic inch V8 holding court between the
inner fenders is likely the same powerplant this classic began life
with. The engine is road ready and still springs into action with a
turn of the key, while a factory 2-barrel carb stands by underneath
the properly branded black air cleaner that contrasts nicely with
the surrounding black surfaces. The accompanying 3 speed automatic
transmission shifts as smoothly as can be and rounds out a
solidly-functioning drivetrain, reinforcing the notion that this
car can be enjoyed without delay. It's a testimony to this
Cutlass's unrelenting authenticity that, when it came time to
replace the exhaust system, a factory unit was brought into action,
just so that a properly vintage note would continue to be vocalized
through the tailpipes. Despite emerging from the factory at a time
when rear leaf springs were still the norm, it's got trailing arms
in back to avoid the squeaking and binding around corners that
often plague its lesser-equipped rivals as it cruises on a set of
14" stock Oldsmobile wheels with chrome rings that are wearing BF
Goodrich T/A radials.
Combining a rarely seen exterior/interior color pairing and
offering a very solid running condition, this 1969 Oldsmobile
Cutlass S is a definite "must see". Call today!
