For Sale: 1956 Chevrolet 3100 in Allentown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

This outstanding 1956 Chevrolet 3100 Task Force pickup is a gorgeous example, presented with a superb, meticulously-maintained restoration. Sold new on May 19, 1956 by Stephenson Motor Company of Independence, Kansas, this Chevy came equipped from new with the Thriftmaster OHV inline six, 3-speed manual transmission, radio, and heater. Subject to a comprehensive, nut-and-bolt restoration in 2009, it now presents in outstanding condition from front to back. The Empire Blue paint is excellent, with deep reflections and exemplary fit of the body panels. The white roof adds a welcome dash of contrast; the theme repeating on the blue-painted steel wheels shod with correct dog-dish hubcaps, chrome trim rings, and wide-whitewall crossply tires. The body is well-detailed with excellent chrome plating on the bumpers, grille, and trim pieces. Accessories include a sun visor, passenger mirror, and custom-made Stephenson Motor Company bed rails. As expected of a high-level restoration, the bed floor is excellent and the truck shows only the lightest signs of use since it was completed.

Power comes from the bomb-proof 235 cubic-inch “Stovebolt” OHV inline-six. When installed under the hood of a Task Force truck, it was known as the Thriftmaster, but this legendary engine has had numerous guises and nicknames through the years, including the multi-carb Blue Flame which famously powered the original Corvette. But in the trucks, the big six was tuned for work, delivering 140 horsepower and vast reserves of low end torque. Like the rest of this truck, the original, numbers-matching engine is superbly detailed and finished to a showroom-new standard. It shows light signs of use on some of the metal surfaces, yet remains very clean and tidy overall.

While the Task Force trucks grew increasingly car-like every year, the interior of this 1955 model remains very much down to business. The bench seat is upholstered in hard-wearing gray vinyl as original, with a molded rubber mat protecting the floors. The dash and door panels are painted steel, reflecting this trucks rugged and purposeful nature. Switches and controls are factory correct, and the heater even features the proper labels and markings. The sale of this outstanding Chevrolet 3100 will include the original Bill of Sale and Owner’s Service Policy certificate. Beautifully restored and maintained in top condition since, this lovely Chevy pickup is sure to please the distinguished collector.
