Vehicle Description
1998 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
The Corvette crossed flag logo originally started out by using an
American Flag, crossed with a checkered flag. Federal law prohibits
the use of the flag in any advertising, so they had to come up with
another flag. Chevrolet being of French origin, they decided to use
at the French symbol for peace, the Fleur-de-lis, with the
checkered flag. Over the years it has gone through many iterations,
but the basic principles still exist.
For consignment a C5 version of the ubiquitous Corvette. This
example has very low original miles...a mere 14,748 on the clock
and has definitely been treated to a lifetime of garaging after
use. Much like a favorite toy, played with then put neatly away
until the next playdate.
Exterior
Starting at the top we have a removable roof panel in dark smoked
safety glass, that if taken off will allow plenty of airflow into
the cockpit. A body color matching double is within the trunk/rear
cargo area if you are in the mood for a no sun day. These are both
in showroom condition. Moving downward we see gallons of Sebring
Silver Metallic covering the immaculate fiberglass panels, an
optioned trim spear, and plenty of curved aerodynamic panels all
put together with well minded gaps. Corvette has certain iconic
features that were on the car from day 1, and this is no exception
with the quarter panel cove/air intake that melts into the doors as
it goes rearward. This model has hidden headlights, which work
flawlessly. Oval forms like the fuel filler door, marker lighting,
and the taillights as well as the quad tailpipes all carry through
this design motif. Highly polished 5 spoke wheels are wrapped with
like new radials on all 4 corners.
Interior
A swing of the doors and we have excellent black covering the door
panels which include a large Bose speaker which is one of many
within the driver's compartment. Power windows, mirrors, locks and
seats with 2 memory positions are present. Speaking of the seats
they are black leather and show a beautiful patina with some slight
folds which give them character. These are high back tuck and roll
buckets and they grab you when you sit down. An AM/FM/CD player is
inset into the dash and surrounds you in wonderful Bose sound. The
instrument cluster is very clean and contains a series of round
analog gauges staring at you to keep you informed of the vitals.
Black carpet is on the floors and is in good condition with no
stains.
Drivetrain
A 5.7 Liter 345hp sequential fuel injected V8 is under the hood and
is extremely clean. This is connected to a 4-speed overdrive
automatic transmission. A traction control system has been added in
as well as a performance handling package.
Undercarriage
Showroom would best describe this undercarriage, with no drips even
nearly present, which would lead us to believe this car was seldom
if ever driven in bad weather, including a rain shower. C5 Corvette
suspension is on all 4 corners, a 2.73 axle and power disc brakes
are all around. Just beautiful underneath.
Drive-Ability
I slipped in and enjoyed the comfortable leather and cranked up the
awesome stereo before turning the engine over. Finally, I did, and
it kicked right over, idled smooth as silk, and with the stereo on
I barely knew it was running. Popping it into D it smoothly
accelerated and just kept going. Has plenty of power and handles
like it's on rails. Needless to say, I was glad I fastened my seat
belt, mostly because I did not want to listen to the constant
warning that I was not buckled!
Super low mileage, and plenty of TLC would sum this "Vette" up.
Tons of power conveniences, and everything adjustable to get it
just right for any driver. Good power, and awesome handling. What
more could one want?
