For Sale: 1991 Mazda Miata in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey

Vehicle Description

SOLD!!
The Mazda MX-5 Miata is a great roadster for any driver, providing inexpensive fun along with excellent long-term reliability. It also is a legend on the amateur racing circuit, revered for its superb balance, handling and snappy acceleration. It captures the essence of the postwar British racing roadsters, with the added benefit of reliability. The First Generation Miata MX-5 consistently receives five-star reviews from owners for driving experience, quality, reliability, handling, and just plain fun.

This First Generation MX-5 is a one-adult-owner unmodified survivor, ***no rust*** (check the shock towers and underside photos!), original engine and transmission (matching numbers), always garage-kept, never raced, never smoked-in, only 74,874 miles with just 500 miles put on the car in the last 10 years! Check the underside, wheel wells and shock tower pics. Undercoating shows very little wear, and exposed metal is clean, not corroded.

It is extremely hard to find an unmodified one-owner example of a First Gen with low miles, no accidents and no rust. This example is finished in Classic Red over a black interior with charcoal fabric bucket seats and a black manually-operated fabric folding top, all in excellent condition. The black tonneau cover is also included. The car features snowflake alloy wheels, chrome door handles, painted matching rear-view mirrors, wraparound taillights, and an oval air intake. This example was repainted about ten years ago in the original Classic Red. Light scratches near the front license plate, likely caused by the plate rubbing. Trim and chrome is all original and in good condition, showing slight wear due to age. The car also comes with a set of 4 additional tires, although the tires on it are very good and not in need of replacement.

The interior is made for the driver, the tiltable steering wheel centering where the driver’s hands are, and the five-speed manual transmission shifter falls right to the driver’s hand. In the sports-car like cabin is plenty of legroom and the seats are generous for hips and shoulders. Charcoal gray tweed cloth with a slightly raised pattern covers the buckets. The instruments are analog dials with chrome rings around the speedometer and the tachometer. This example has the "A Package": Power steering, leather-wrapped steering wheel, aluminum alloy wheels, cassette AM/FM stereo with anti-theft coding. This car also comes with the original “Miata” insignia matching carpet floor mats, and a set of waterproof Weathertech floor mats.

Under the hood is a beautifully kept, naturally-aspirated 1.6-liter double-overhead-cam inline 4-cylinder engine with multi-port electronic fuel injection that makes 116-horsepower. Power is distributed through the original 5-speed manual transmission to a rear wheel drive with 4.30 gearing. The engine and undercarriage is very clean, with no leaks and no rust on the shock towers. A spray-on anti-rust coating protects the undercarriage. All underneath is structurally sound and in full working condition. Suspension is fully independent, adjustable double-wishbone front and rear with coil springs, and gas-filled shock absorbers on all 4 corners, and front and rear stabilizer bars. Power-assisted disc brakes with dual circuit hydraulics are also on all 4 wheels. Rack and pinion steering guides the car.

In July, 2019, the following work was done: New clutch slave and master cylinder; replaced timing belt, tensioner, roller; new water pump; replaced valve cover gasket; new spark plugs and wires; new battery; cleaned valves, pistons, fuel injection system, throttle body and air intake bore; new fuel pump, strainer and filter; new front and rear disc brake pads and rotors, calipers and hoses; changed oil, filter, oil drain plug seal; lubricated chassis; replaced engine coolant and engine air filter.

As this is a one-owner car, the original manuals and full history is included. Clean CarFax shows no accidents and no title issues. Clean New Jersey title in owner’s name. If you want to have what you thought is unobtainable -- a reliable, ready-to-drive classic roadster that handles the twistiest roads, worry-free -- then this is your car.
