It is with great pleasure that we offer this superb 1978 Chrysler New Yorker Brougham. This award-winning example is beautifully preserved in stunning original condition, coming to us from a noted collector of Chrysler automobiles. Showing just 35,464 miles from new, this car is an exceptional example of Chrysler’s luxurious flagship coupe; large and imposing with style and substance in excess. This car features the optional St. Regis package which added the contrasting vinyl roof, fixed B-pillars and opera-style quarter windows. The Black paint is suitably formal and in outstanding condition overall, impressively well-presented for its 40-plus years. Accenting the body is a buckskin-colored vinyl roof, in similarly exceptional condition. The car has an unused spare tire and the new set of matched radial Diamond Back Classic Tires Custom was made to precisely match the original whitewall width. The big Chrysler rides on wide whitewall tires with chrome wheel covers that draw inspiration from the big chrome wires of the 1930s Imperials. The remaining brightwork is in excellent order, including the rocker trims, bumpers, and polished window surrounds. The large doors open and shut with a satisfying feeling of solidity and the panel gaps are consistent with this being an untouched original car.
This car features acres of plush and lavishly trimmed velour upholstery, which is also in fabulous original condition. It is fully equipped with a host of 1970s luxury equipment including air conditioning, power windows, power locks, rear defroster, digital electronic clock, remote outside mirror, six-way power driver’s seat, cruise control, and tilting/telescopic steering wheel. With room for five passengers on the vast plush seats, it is the epitome of 1970s style.
Motivation comes from the 400 cubic inch V8 with 4-barrel carburetor, rated at 190 horsepower. The engine bay is tidy and well-kept, appropriately presented for a car with 35,000 original miles. Most of the original stickers and markings are intact, as is the original solid state spark control box attached to the air cleaner. In 2017, the AACA awarded this marvelous Chrysler a 1st Prize in the highly competitive Historic Preservation of Original Features class (HPOF). Thanks to the care and attention it has received from its passionate collector/owner, it stands as one of the best preserved and most original examples of its kind.
