Vehicle Description
This week Canyon State Classics has the honor of bringing to market
a 1939 Ford Deluxe 91A Convertible in VERY nice condition inside
and out! This Ford comes equipped with the iconic fold out rumble
seat in the rear and turns heads wherever it goes. When was the
last time you saw something this old and this sharp going down the
road? This old Deluxe has been treated to a recent full engine
overhaul and full color correction. She needs nothing to start
being enjoyed at the shows or on the road and this Ford drives as
good as it looks! The car has come to us recently out of an amazing
ownership since 1992 and had a very interesting history prior to
that!
Previous to the current consignor's almost 30 year ownership of
this '39 Ford, the car lived an interesting life. He acquired the
vehicle out of Oregon from a couple who collected 30's Americana
and had a couple other Fords for sale. This one was chosen over the
others for its historical significance and because it had just
completed a complete frame-off restoration in the spring of 1992.
This included a complete drive train rebuild, fresh top, new paint
and wood grain as well as a like new leather interior. The couple
out of Oregon had attained the car from the Walt Disney Company in
California. Disney had used the Ford in a musical production and
then later allegedly moved it to the Spruce Goose Dome for the 1939
display along side the giant sea going plane, Queen Mary and other
cool 30's and 40's items. Acquisition of the car came when Disney
decided to no longer display the large plane and surrounding items
just 3 years later, as they scrapped plans for "Port Disney" that
were to include said displays.
The following is a list of equipment on the 1939 Ford Deluxe
Convertible:
-Ford Flathead V8 (freshly rebuilt) -3 Speed Transmission
-Armstrong Power Steering -Lockheed Hydraulic "Footstrong" Power
Brakes -Glove Box Analog Clock -Tan Leather Interior & Rumble Seat
-White Walls -Convertible Top -Original Ford V8 Center Caps The
exterior on the 39 Ford has been refinished in "Centeri Black" is
in great condition. The paint is 30+ years old and does show some
small cracks and crows feet in a few spots, but we just completed a
20 hour color correction and detail on the car so she is looking
the best she has in over 2 decades. The fenders are all arrow
straight and all body lines are correct. The underside of the car
is perfect with no rust or prior floor pan repairs. The chrome is
very nice original with the expected few small dings or blemishes,
but over all is gorgeous for original condition. The car is riding
on nice wide whitewalls with correct Ford hubcaps. The black soft
top is almost new and looks great with the tan leather interior!
The interior is in great shape all around. The leather interior is
also showing very well for its 30 plus year old age. The Art Deco
styling and bakelite knobs and dials are all in outstanding shape.
The dash and door panels look like new. Amazing how well it has
been kept as well as restored where needed. Mechanically, this Ford
runs great. The motor provides ample power to move the car around
comfortably and the 3 speed manual shifts as it should. Clutch was
replaced at time of engine rebuild and engages confidently. The
engine was rebuilt a few years back by a master aircraft engineer
who had a love of old for Flat heads and this was one of his last
masterpieces before he recently passed. The current owner estimates
only maybe 500 break in miles since rebuild. The car starts right
up and runs so quiet its hard to tell its running. The car was
checked front to back and starts up like a top, and stops the way
it should. This car is ready to cruise! All in all, this is one
very clean and very respectable '39 Ford. This car is a great
example of a solid car which has been well taken care of and is a
car you can be proud to drive. These 30's era cars are becoming
harder to find as well preserved examples such as this one. Plus
you cant deny the cool history this car brings to the table as
well! Please email or call with any questions and we can help with
shipping quotes and arrangements. We also welcome International
buyers. Any further questions please call Jon at 480-703-2337. The
car is located in Sunny Tempe, Arizona.
