From 1954 through 1958 Buick reintroduced the Century using the
same formula as the earlier versions, mating the smaller, lighter
body to its largest and most powerful V8 which was the 322
Nailhead. The idea was making a performance vehicle for the GM
lineup. It was a hit with the California Highway Patrol which
placed a large fleet order for two-door sedans, a body style that
was unavailable to the public in 1955. The body style which was a
hit was now available in 1956 and by this time was producing over
250 HP which was considered to be quite powerful for the time.
Power brakes were optional and tubeless tires were all new, both of
which were helpful for performance. This particular stunning
example is finished in what we can tell is Foam over Glacier Green
with a white painted top. This appears to be a very nice sorted
Buick with excellent chrome and trim and near spotless interior, a
very tidy engine compartment. This is a car you could feel
comfortable going to shows or touring as the car starts absolutely
perfect with no smoking or leaking mated to a smooth shifting
automatic with nice brakes and tires. All the glass is perfect and
operates flawlessly as do the lights. This Buick in my opinion is a
stunning example that would cost double to duplicate if doing one
your self. If you are looking for a post-war American classic with
power and elegance, do not let this one pass you by.
