Vehicle Description
1964 Austin Healey BJ8 Roadster for sale. Motorcar Classics is
proud to present this outstanding 1964 Austin Healey BJ8 Roadster
finished in Golden Beige Metallic with Red leather interior and
Black convertible top. VIN# HBJ8L/29468 is a desirable Mk III
4-seat roadster that has a history including two known
restorations, the most recent of which was completed in June 2016.
Restoration encompassed the body, chassis, drivetrain, suspension,
electrical system, hydraulics, interior, glass, and trim. The car
is in concours condition today, among the best of BJ8 we have ever
seen, as a result of its last owner being one who would not accept
less than perfection. The British Motor Industry Heritage
Certificate reveals that this car was originally finished in Dark
British Racing Green with black trim and a black top. It was built
and dispatched to the US in October 1964 equipped with wire wheels,
a heater, an adjustable steering column, and a 4-speed manual
transmission with overdrive. Our client purchased this Austin Healey
BJ8 on December 3, 2007 from well-known and respected Austin Healey
restorer, Kurt Tanner. It was represented as needing a full
restoration which the client intended to do himself. The gentleman
did a complete tear down and, after much consideration, decided
that the scope of work was beyond his capability, and the car
merited a professional restoration. The owner shipped the car back
to California for the restoration. Unfortunately, the results of
which did not meet the owners high expectations. Then in 2016 the
owner brought the car to Knut Holzer and Huy Tran at British
Restoration Corporation, (BRC) of Philadelphia, PA who were
commissioned to bring the car to the superb concours condition you
see in our photos. At BRC there were a half a dozen Healeys under
various states of restoration and BRC are known for having restored
hundreds of Austin Healeys. BRC did a frame off restoration
including mechanical rebuild. While Golden Beige Metallic is not the
original color, this is the commemorative color that was used on
the last 553 Austin Healey BJ8s built in the final years of
production. It is a striking color that looks just right with the
red leather interior. The wood, the chrome, the leather, and all
the little details that make a BJ8 such a jewel of a car, are all
perfect. So after twelve years and two restorations, this 1964
Austin Healey BJ8 is truly in showroom condition or better. Over
$150,000 has been invested in this iconic Healey BJ8 and it is
ready for a new owners immediate concours showing or touring
pleasure.
