This 1972 Chevrolet Vega is a nice reminder that these coupes are
even better at accepting performance components than the Novas.
With a powerful V8 and the right upgrades, this is a slick black
speed machine.
The Vega coupes are really coming into their own on the classic car
market. The front end and the Mag wheels resemble the early 2nd-gen
Camaros. The black paint has the deep and glossy look of a good
investment. And the silver stripe running over the top of this car
is similar to what the fastest bow ties would get. It's a true
classic American. But that sloping fastback rear with a hint of
integrated tailfin has the same kind of appeal as a classic
European sports coupe. So this one has style, and the Mighty Mouse
graphics on the rear windows are a sign there's power here,

Inside, the seats, carpeting, and door panels are finished in a
nice gray, and there are even comfy cloth inserts. It has the
feeling of some nice investments, but that's not what will really
have you excited. Instead, this one gets your performance heart
tingling with the three-spoke sports steering wheel, AutoMeter
Pro-Comp auxiliary gauges, and the shift light. That last one goes
particularly nicely with the B&M shifter.
The factory Vega coupes didn't get V8 power, but the rear-wheel
drive setup means they're ready for the upgrade. This 327
cubic-inch V8 has the right performance pieces like a Holley
four-barrel carburetor and Edelbrock intake. You even have great
supporting components like an MSD ignition and a Milodon oil pan.
And there's a wicked set of Hooker Competition headers that add
even more power while contributing to the wicked rumble of the
custom H-pipe dual exhaust. The three-speed transmission has a
manual valve body, so you know this is made for performance. And
there's even a four-link rear with sway bar and nice set of front
disc brakes.
Complete with owner's manual, this is a cool-looking coupe that's
