Located in ?Montana Up for sale is my 1972 Jeep J4000 (Gladiator)
pickup. This truck is a true and absolute survivor! With just over
54,000 WELL documented miles, this machine is a living breathing
time capsule. It even has the original window sticker!! I am the
3rd owner of this beautiful piece of history and hate to see it go.
From day one up until a few months ago, this truck has had a camper
on it, protecting both the bed and the cab from damaging sun and
weather. Jeb, as we like to call it, is about as original as it
gets. The big block 360 was rebuilt 11,000 miles ago (back in 1999)
at the local Ford dealer in town and the seat has been recovered.
Other than normal maintenance, everything is as it was in 1972. The
second owner purchased it in 1981 with only 14,000 miles, and has
kept meticulous records until now. Since it hasn't been driven very
much in the last 3 decades or so, it needed some standard
maintenance in order to keep it in proper running condition. Below
is a list of things I've done to it in the last few months. -
Oil/filter change for the engine and transmission - Brakes bled and
adjusted - Input/output shaft seals replaced on transfer case/fresh
oil - Tune-up: New plugs/wires/rotor/cap/points/fuel filter/air
cleaner - Carb professionally tuned at 3500ft above sea level
/choke set/timing set - Turn signal switch replaced - New
32x11.5x15 tires installed on old school mag wheels (I still have
the original wheels and can include them if you'd like). The new
tires are the same size in diameter as the original so the
speedometer is accurate. Everything works as it should; original AM
radio, wipers, lights, signal, brakes, power steering, windows,
doors, seat belts, air vents, heat, etc. Even the door/windowith
vents seals are in great condition! It has an axillary tank in the
bed that is also in good working condition. This truck is 47 years
old and in amazing original condition, however it is not perfect.
There are typical scratches and dings here and there, and 2 patches
up front near the badges. There were outrigger supports for the
camper there at one time and the previous owner took them out,
welded the holes and put in filler to smooth it out. Tiny surface
rust spots and patina can be found throughout, but you will NOT
find cancer rust anywhere on this truck! The original Butterscotch
Gold paint buffs out well and still catches everyone's eye as we're
driving by. The only items that I know need attention are the
deteriorated front spring bushings and the emergency brake could
use some lubrication. It works, but doesn't like to fully release.
I'm moving soon and don't have time to work on it any longer. You
will not be disappointed in this truck (unless you're crazy, and
then I can't help you;). I have many more pictures, so don't be
afraid to ask. Thanks for looking. - This 1972 Jeep J1400
