The Volkswagen Karmann Ghia was a confluence of three discreet influencers in the burgeoning European car industry. Volkswagen was well established as the world leader in small economical cars but lacked the vision to leverage its manufacturing prowess beyond the mainstream mindset. Italian stylist Luigi Serge of Carrozzeria Ghia quietly adapted the underpinnings of the Beetle to a sporty and elegantly proportioned coupe and presented it to the renowned German coach builder Karmann. Together they presented the concept prototypes to VW executives, selling them on the idea of a Volkswagen halo car.
The rest is history, as the Karmann Ghia did indeed make its mark as VW's sexy little sports car. Neither fast nor competitive in the vernacular of the sports car niche, it was nonetheless well received across the globe as the iconoclast alternative to the dowdy and practical Beetle. Interesting from every angle its timeless good looks made it an instant classic.
This Ghia was restored some years ago and presents extremely well. It was recently sorted both mechanically and cosmetically. It starts, accelerates, shifts, steers and stops as it should. As a late edition in the series it benefits from the more powerful 1600 engine fed by dual port Solex carbs with electronic choke for easy starting as well as more supportive seats, three point seat belts and front disc brakes. It is equally suited as a cars and coffee show off as it is to a reliable daily driver for the Bohemians among us.
Air cooled car enthusiasts appreciate the durability and relatively low maintenance the designs reward their owners with. Its a bonus when it is wrapped in a body with the looks of a Karmann Ghia. Buy this car, take care of it, enjoy it and you will never lose money in it.
This classic VW is located in Scottsdale, Arizona and is offered for sale as is where is. If the ad is up the car is available. Low ballers, scammers and sales assistants need not apply. Call text or reply.
