Possibly the most recognizable car to ever hit the sand, the dirt or the pavement. The Meyers Manx was the original Dune Buggy.
Conceived by So Cal desert racer and engineer Bruce Meyers to compete in what would come to be known as the Baja 1000, a grueling off road endurance race from Tijuana to La Paz Mexico along the foreboding Baja Peninsula. Its short wheel base, torquey air cooled engine and rear weight bias revolutionized the sport of off road racing. Against the likes of Ford, Dodge, Honda and Yamaha, the Meyers Manx legend was made, dominating all comers on two and four wheels in the inaugural 1967 Baja 1000.
Of course, its ground breaking success in racing is today overshadowed by its enduring status as a cultural icon of the '60's and '70s promulgated by the likes of Elvis Presley, Steve McQueen, the Beach Boys and Barbie. Few things in life, much less the automotive world has been more universally loved than the Dune Buggy.
This Manx is a true survivor. Still sporting its original gel coat finish and bright work it is powered by a VW air cooled flat four that runs and sounds great. Despite a bit of patina it is in overall in great condition with a complete and comfortable interior with working lights and instrumentation. It has fresh rubber and it steers and stops as it should.
The Meyers Manx was widely copied but never duplicated. Values have increased steadily year after year. Nothing turns heads, prompts thumbs up and makes people smile like a Meyers Manx Dune Buggy.
This Manx is located in Scottsdale, Arizona and is offered for sale as is where is. Low ballers, scammers and sales assistants need not apply. If the ad is up the car is available. Interesting trades considered. No bikes, boats or planes please. Call text or reply.
