The 1940 Buick models featured the new “C-body” sculpted by legendary GM designer Harley Earl, with the Series 50 sharing a basic body with members of the Cadillac, Oldsmobile and Pontiac nameplates. Ride was enhanced by mating the body to the larger Roadmaster chassis. Moving the gear shifter to the column from the floor, a cue borrowed from Cadillac, created true six-passenger comfort on the interior while the body increased five inches in width and was 2-3 inches lower than previous models.
The Series 56C is a two-door convertible appointed in Permanent Red with tan interior and top. This unit also includes a parade boot. Power for this nearly two-ton vehicle comes from the venerable Buick straight 8 248 cubic inch engine. A total of 4,804 units of the Series 56C were produced, with 40 vehicles designated for export. This vehicle has been in the portfolio of a respected collector and stored in a humidity-controlled environment for 14 years.
