Vehicle Description
1965 Ford Mustang Fastback For Sale - No Expense Spared Rotisserie
Restoration LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1965 Ford
Mustang Fastback With only 525 street 1965 Shelby GT350's ever
produced from the factory, these cars have become extremely
valuable and sought after by collectors. Most of these cars have
been tucked away in private collections and never driven in order
to preserve the value. The car offered for sale is a tribute done
to original 1965 specification that was built to be used and
enjoyed without the worry of devaluing an original. Virtually
undisguisable from an original, other than the VIN number. This
vision started when this 2 2 was purchased from the estate of a
longtime Mustang collector in Long Beach, California. This San
Jose, California built Mustang fastback had been in California and
Arizona from day one. The beautiful California body was the perfect
candidate to complete a concours rotisserie restoration to original
65 Shelby GT350 specifications. Concours details include overspray
of undercarriage and detail of suspension to MCA/SAAC standards.
The restoration process which took over 2,000 hours, started with
the complete strip down of the chassis to bare metal, mounting on a
rotisserie, then sealing the body and painting in the correct
Wimbledon White and Guardsman Blue LeMans stripes. The paint
process included the appropriate and correct red oxide
undercarriage with body color overspray. Under the hood looks very
stock and unsuspecting but, the engine has been upgraded for
improved performance and reliability. The powerplant started with a
302 block, balanced and blueprinted with Crower crank, Eagle H-Beam
rods, Comp Cams Nostaglia roller cam ,roller lifters and roller
rockers, 289 hi-po dual point distributor, 10:1 JE flat top forged
pistons, 351 Windsor closed chamber heads ported and polished with
stainless steel valves and ARP bolts used throughout. The engine is
dressed with the correct Shelby oil pressure extension and all the
proper Cobra script aluminum oil pan, Cobra intake manifold and
Cobra valve covers. This powerplant is backed by a Ford Top loader
4-speed with Hurst comp plus shifter and correct Ford shifter
handle. Exhaust consists of Tri-Y headers into Glass pack mufflers
that are side exiting. The power is put to the ground by a proper
'65 style 9-inch rear with a 3.89:1 gear ratio and incorporating a
Detroit locker. All the special Shelby body, chassis and interior
modifications that were designed in the 1965 Shelbys were
incorporated into this build. Shelby performed many changes to the
base K code 2 2 fastback chassis once it arrived at his plant,
specifically to homologate the GT350 for racing. In the engine
compartment these modifications include the reinforced cowl,
one-piece export brace and Monte Carlo bar and relocation of the
battery into the trunk. The suspension was redesigned by lowering
the upper control arms by 1 inch, utilizing a quick steering idler
and Pitman arm, 1" sway bar, override traction bars, rear
suspension snubbers and axle limiting cables. To complete the
handling package are Koni "D" adjustable shocks and Cragar Shelby
15-inch wheels with Goodyear Eagle GT radial tires. The interior
incorporates all the Shelby changes including the 15" Shelby Wood
Steering wheel, Shelby gauge pod with CS Tachometer and oil
pressure gauges, radio delete block off plate, relocated momentary
horn switch, 3-inch competition lap belts, and the special
fiberglass rear package tray with spare tire mounting. This
four-year labour intensive build was just completed to the highest
show standards to be able to be shown or driven just like Carroll
Shelby intended. Want the driving experience of a 1965 Shelby
without the expense or risk? Then don't miss the opportunity to add
this Shelby tribute to your garage today! *Titled As A 1966 Ford
