COMBINE CLASSIC ITALIAN STYLING WITH SIMPLE FIAT MECHANICALS AND THIS IS WHAT YOU GET!
Formed in Italy in 1926 , Siata initially sold performance parts to modify and tune Fiat vehicles. After World War II the company began to produce automobiles under its own brand, relying heavily on their established alliance with Fiat to become a familiar name on European racing circuits in the 1950’s.
Based upon the Fiat 850 platform, Siata began production of the Spring in 1968 attempting to emulate the success of the Siata Rallye from the previous decade. The launch has been described by some as a last-ditch effort to generate desperately needed cash for the Italian auto maker. The two-seat roadster offered a distinctive style with the upright grill and headlights mounted to the main body structure as opposed to the wings (fenders). Initially scores of would-be customers gave dealers deposits for a new Siata Spring, taxing the factory’s production capability of approximately 13 cars per day. A four-month strike by workers essentially halted production and irate customers demanded refunds striking the death knell for the automaker in 1970, when the company filed bankruptcy. The assembly line was bought by ORSA and relocated, who continued to use the Spring name on a different platform for a few years until the Arab oil embargo caused sales of sports car to plummet with that company eventually closing in 1976.
Powered by Fiat’s proven 843cc rear-mounted engine, power was transmitted to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox. The Siata Spring body was attached to a modified (narrowed) Fiat 850 chassis. In true roadster fashion, creature comforts were minimal. A canvas top and separate side curtains were available in the event one was caught in inclement weather. Four-wheel drum brakes provided adequate stopping power for the lightweight two seater, which had an advertised top speed of just over 75 miles per hour.
This 1969 Siata Spring is a very presentable example of the approximately 3,500 units built between 1968 and 1970 in the Milan factory. The Spring was primarily sold in Italy, with export units going to Germany, France and the United States. This appears to be a US export model, with the speedometer reading in miles per hour as opposed to kilometers. Experts estimate 10 percent of the total units exist today.
Offered at $12,500 USD, here is a chance to own a rare, investment-quality Italian two-seat sports car with simple mechanicals for less than the price of a used small SUV! The proper yellow livery with black top and interior shows well. The side curtains are also still present. The overall condition of the car is consistent with a vehicle that has been enjoyed by previous owners, showing just over 93,000 miles on the odometer. The vehicle has been a part of the present owner’s portfolio for several years and has been stored in a humidity-controlled environment. NOTICE
Because of the number of vehicles we represent we cannot drive every vehicle for long distances. These vehicles have been part of static displays for long periods of time, in some cases for decades, and are subject to the flaws and imperfections consistent with that. While we do our best to disclose all issues we known about a vehicle in our advertising, these are old cars and something that has always worked in the past might not function properly today. Please check the requirements of your state regarding the licensing and registration of classic vehicles and make sure the vehicle you are looking at meets those if applicable. Unless otherwise noted, all vehicles represented by Evergreen Digital Showroom possess a clean (non-branded) title which will be provided the new buyer when purchase funds clear our financial institution. Virtually all of our vehicles are sold as mileage exempt due to their age. We do not warranty any vehicle, nor any part of the vehicle including air conditioning systems, brake systems, electrical systems and gauges, fuel systems, accessories or powertrain components.
These are old vehicles and it is very common for them to require certain maintenance and upkeep for them to be operational. In many cases issues with leaks may develop when being driven after a long period of not being used. This is common, as classic cars at some point will leak fluids. For this reason, we do not encourage buyers to attempt driving their purchase home as we cannot guarantee functional reliability of these vehicles. We strongly encourage prospective buyers to be sure they are comfortable with these issues before purchasing a classic car.
Descriptions of vehicles represented by Evergreen Digital Showroom are intended to be informational in nature and do not in any way constitute any sort of warranty, expressed or implied. Again, these vehicles are presented “as-is, where-is” without guarantee or warranty. Vehicles manufactured prior to 1981 will likely not be included in the databases of companies such as CarFax and AutoCheck that provide vehicle history information to consumers.
