FULL CLASSIC RECOGNITION AND WIDE EVENT ELIGIBILITY Introduced at
the January 1932 New York Automobile Show, the Twin Six propelled
Packard into the elite multi-cylinder race of the early 1930s
against Cadillac and Marmon. While initially named in honor of
Packards first 12-cylinder line of the WW I era, the new Packard
was renamed simply Packard Twelve by 1933. A technical masterpiece,
the Packard Twelve was celebrated from launch for its massive
torque and nearly-silent operation. Careful development was applied
throughout production, which continued through the Seventeenth
Series of 1939, resulting in the Twelves everlasting reputation for
excellence. Initially displacing 445 cubic inches and developing
160 factory-rated horsepower, the Twelve grew to 473 cubic inches
by the Twelfth Series of 1935, with aluminum cylinder heads and
power increased to 175 HP. Predictably, Packards range-topping
Twelves featured some of the most elegant and luxurious custom
coach built bodies ever devised; however, a select few like this
example were equipped with sporting open bodies. A dwindling number
of custom body builders applied their artistry to the majestic
Packard Twelve chassis, including Murray under the Dietrich, Inc.
label made famous by stylist Raymond Dietrich, including the
fabulous example offered here. This exceptionally handsome 1935
Packard Twelve Model 1207 2/4-Passenger Coupe Roadster is one of
just 788 Packard Twelves built in all for the 1935 Twelfth Series.
According to marque enthusiasts, it is one of as few as seven known
remaining today with this body style. The former owner was Denver,
Colorado-based Packard collector and CCCA member, Zack Brinkerhoff,
who is understood to have purchased the car in California from a
Pebble Beach Concours dElegance judge. A body-off restoration was
completed in 2008 by Mark Clayton of Clayton Classics in
Castlerock, Colorado, with the car elevated further there over a
two-year timeframe following purchased by the current owner. Among
the careful improvements made, the engines cylinder block was
re-bored, and a new head gasket and rear-differential kit were
installed. Cosmetic improvements included restoration of all chrome
brightwork, new side windows were fitted, plus fine detail work
including a new rubber step and a new chrome latch behind the
passenger seat for rumble-seat access, restoration of the clock and
very rare radio, installation of new windshield-wiper blades and a
new gearshift knob, refinishing of the inside A-pillars to match
the dashboard, and the addition of a Packard emblem below the
radiator, plus restoration of the cloisonn Packard badge on the
luggage rack and refinishing of the Packard luggage trunk to match
the body. The current owner reports that since purchase and
completion, this handsome Packard Twelve has been exhibited at the
Indianapolis 500 car show, where it was awarded Second in Class. On
the day before the show, it was driven by the current owner and his
dad on the world-famous Indianapolis track for two laps, with the
Packard photographed there. As expected, this very rare and
beautiful vehicle is recognized as one of the best Packards in the
Chicago area. It has been shown at Packard Club events and in local
events, including the Lake Forest Concours dElegance, where it won
the Peoples Choice Award. Beautifully restored in a great color
combination, this Packard Twelve is complemented by a properly
fitted convertible top with contrasting maroon piping and desirable
accessories including twin amber fog lamps, dual side mounted spare
tires, chrome wire wheels, white sidewall tires and the
aforementioned clock and rare restored radio. As a CCCA Full
Classic automobile, this exceedingly rare and highly detailed 1935
Packard Twelve 1207 2/4-Passenger Coupe Roadster is eligible for
any worthy concours, show, or touring event the next owner should
choose to enter. Call us today for more details on this Classic Era
