This is the second time that I have owned this car. The first time was just a year ago. The man who purchased it bought it as a project. His years of training and experience as a GM mechanic had him wishing to make some improvements to the car while utilizing his expertise. Recently, he decided to trade it back to me.
The first time I owned it, it came from a new Chevy store in Iowa. It had been traded for a brand new car. It has always been very original and nice. Much of the credit for that goes to its California origin and first ownership. It had only been driven 58,153 miles since new and was in great condition.
When Jeff bought it, his determination was to improve upon the anemic, pollution-controlled 305. He had done his homework and research. He knew what it took and he utilized his skills to make the changes.
Now the engine has an estimated 300HP. Driving the car will confirm that estimate. You would think there was a 383 beneath the hood. Jeff’s improvements were miraculous.
He installed a new cam and lifters, new Weiand intake manifold, Demon 625 cfm carburetor, water pump, timing set and cover, free-flowing exhaust, belts/hoses and tuned it to perfection. Then he installed a new set of 3.73 gears with positraction in the rear end. Finally, he replaced the struts and installed new wheels and tires.
This thing will get it done! The power, gearing and overdrive transmission work in perfect unison to offer a much more exciting driving experience. Ironically, the combination of the gear change and the taller tires allowed the speedometer to remain very close to correct.
The paint and interior of this car are original and very nice. You will find a few touched up areas in the paint, but nothing to distract from the great look. The interior is incredible. Right down to the factory floor mats.
This car is not heavily optioned. It has power steering and power disc brakes. It does have the optional AM/FM radio. All features work properly. The doors lock with the key. There is a spare tire, jack and lug wrench.
I doubt you will find a numbers-matching 305-5 speed Camaro that will keep up with this car. And look so good doing it! I was extremely impressed when I drove it home from Jeff’s place. Even after my 100 mile drive, it the odometer has only increased to 59,360.
I won’t tell you this car is as good as new. I am going to tell you that it performs BETTER than new!
