For Sale: 1987 Buick GNX in Ankeny, Iowa

Vehicle Description

I am sadly selling my all original, immaculate 1987 Buick GNX (Grand National Experimental). Production number 379 of 547.

This is the most sought-after sports car of the eighties. The demand was so high that some dealerships were selling them for up to $100K in 1987! It is a factory original 1987 Buick GNX #379. It had an approved manufacture repaint (due to orange peel issues) see the close-ups on the pictures/reflection.  I tried taking many pictures in the daylight, night time, reflective, etc, so it shows the quality of the paint. This is a low owner vehicle and has always been in collector’s hands.

It is the fastest production car made in America that decade. It was even faster than GM's own Corvette, as well as the Ferrari and Porsche.

There are few GNXs out there, but this one far exceeds every other one I have seen, and I have passed over may others (at auctions) before finding “the one”.

This survivor car is near perfection in quality and correctness. Simply an amazing investment for a GNX with only 41K miles.

The GNX will never increase in number and some have had major mods, a few have been in accidents, many have higher mileage, and some are hidden away in collections. There is absolutely zero doubt that these will skyrocket in price in the next few years (historically speaking, I am the demographic that loves this vehicle and not unlike the cars from the 60’s and 70’s…the 80’s kids are up next). You will not find a list of eighties cars online that don’t include this one (fastest, coolest, most rare). A low mileage GNX went for $165K in Kissimmee in 2017 and #547 went for $225K last year. There have been a couple that have went over $200K this year as well.  They are hard to find and not on sale often.

This GNX has no mods and I went to see it in person because I wanted to make sure it wasn’t too good to be true. It didn’t disappoint and I bought it onsite, with cash.

The original spare in the trunk was never removed and the original jack assembly was untouched.

FULLY LOADED WITH EVERY OPTION. It comes with the original documentation. Power windows, power locks, six-way power seats, power steering, power brakes, automatic trunk

release, tilt, cruise, tinted glass, rear defrost, door guards, air conditioning, concert sound with cassette (yes cassette)!

This vehicle was never smoked in and has never seen snow.

This is a highly documented 41,728-mile car with the numbers matching, factory engine. It has a clean and clear title in my name.

·The air conditioning blows cold air

· Immaculate undercarriage

This GNX is straight as an arrow with NO unwanted sideways pull. Equal and factory correct door gaps, hood gaps, trunk gaps throughout. It has clean bumper fillers that are not cracked. The badging is in excellent condition and is factory original/correct.

Mint original interior 10/10. Upholstery, no rips or wear.

Original Brochure, Embossed Regal owner’s manual, Delco radio manual, Goodyear warranty book, maintenance schedule book!

Take your time and research the internet on prices. Not just eBay, but other sites and auctions as well. The high selling points of this vehicle are the original numbers matching engine, perfect interior, the year, the options, the mileage and the low production number.

Antique status for the GNXs have been steadily on the rise for the past few years and haven't stopped.

GNXs appraise for $64K for the low retail, $99k for the average retail price and $138K for the high retail price according to NADA, but they have been going from $165-$250K. This one is very high quality and in line with the $132K assessment, but I priced slightly below average for a quick sale.

Quick Stats on GN vs GNX engines

GN

60 mph in 4.9 seconds est. stock. (Ferrari territory) (and faster than the Corvette)

150 mph top speed approximately

125 mph top speed governed

245 hp/355 ft.lb, 4000RPM was closer to 300 hp stock (more than the Corvette in 1987)

3.8L 231 cu.in. V-6 -TURBO - these are bulletproof engines too!

1/4 mile: varies, approx. high 13's-low 14's,@ 95 mph-approx.

GNX

276hp/360 ft.lb, 4,400RPM

Lip flares, fender vents, 16X8 Honeycomb rims

Larger Garrett T-3 Turbocharger with a ceramic impellor

Larger intercooler

More aggressive fuel spark

Revised exhaust system

The GNX held 12.7 second, 113.1 mph quarter mile times that beat the Ferrari F40 and Porsche 930 Turbo that year.

547 GNXs were made in 1987, the FIRST/LAST/ONLY YEAR! Most desirable and collectible

It has only seen minutes of daylight since I have owned it. Most of that was for taking pictures. It has ALWAYS been covered up with the #1 rated, breathable car cover to prevent dust from settling on it. It spends its time in a temperature controlled garage.

This car will win shows and get attention!

I took high definition pictures but am willing to take any additional pictures you’d like to see. I am willing to show the vehicle and we can work out a time that works for both of us prior to the end of the auction.

If you see this GNX in person, you would immediately make an offer on it. Don’t let this one escape. Trust me, I have missed out on a few rarities trying to save a few thousand dollars and I am still “sick-to-death” over making those poor decisions.

Only cash or wire transfer accepted.

This GNX is sold “as is” and the buyer is responsible for shipping costs.

This GNX is located in Des Moines, Iowa and is easy to find and easy to load.

This is an opportunity for you to own your dream car or make a sound investment (way more secure than the stock market, with way higher returns on investment).

As a final note: I suggest you read the history of Buick Grand Nationals and the GNX, check NADA pricing, historic values on Barrett Jackson/Mecum, check other vehicles on eBay, Autotrader and other sites. Why would I share this? Because this vehicle is far superior (which helps me) and an educated buyer is a confident/happy buyer (which helps you).  As mentioned above, it is well below the price it should be!
