For Sale: 1968 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 in Halton Hills, Ontario

Vehicle Description

1968 Shelby GT-500KR Fastback For Sale - Never Restored, Original Paint, Time Capsule LMC is proud to offer for sale this 1968 Shelby Mustang GT 500KR Ford introduced the Mustang in April 1964 as a mid-year production sensation which quickly became the icon of a new breed of cars called 'pony cars'. Today, a 'pillar of American automotive lore' and extraordinarily attractive, the Mustang has been capturing the hearts of drivers for over 50 years...however, the Shelby Mustang is the ultimate asphalt warrior from the blue oval stable. Ford, with assistance from Carroll Shelby, put forward 'the next hot item in the street wars' with the 1968 Shelby GT500 KR Cobra Jet. The mean and powerful look was achieved by Shelby American through body modifications including extending the front end by three inches, adding a fiberglass hood with fully functioning dual front scoops and hot air extraction vents. It had a brand-new version of the 428 Police Interceptor engine fitted with improved-breathing heads and larger exhaust manifolds giving birth to the 428 CJ. The GT500 KR or "King of the Road" powered by a pavement eating Cobra Jet 428 engine was deviously rated at only 335 horsepower when in fact, it pumped out at least 400 horsepower. Powerful enough to send the GT500 KR from 0 to 60 mph in only 6.9 seconds with a 103 mph quarter-mile speed. Additionally, the KR had larger brakes, under-hood suspension bracing, and staggered rear shocks to reduce axle wind-up and wheel hop. At the time, Car Life magazine said "The car is so impressive, so intimidating to challengers, that there are no challengers". Limited production and awesome power makes the 1968 GT500 KR one of the most collectible 'Stangs of all time. This Factory "I" Code Lime Gold/Green with Black Decor interior rolled off the assembly line at the Metuchen N.J. plant on July 18, 1968. Subsequently, it was shipped to Bill Currie Ford in Tampa, Florida, on August 26, 1968 with a MSRP price of $5,422.46. Legendary Motorcar acquired this vehicle from the first and original owner from Brandon, Florida, who purchased his dream car on October 1, 1968. He passed along a binder, complete with the following preserved documents: original title, Shelby Cobra KR Spec Brochure, pictures, original Owner's Manual, original Maintenance Folio, original Dealer Brochure, Florida Vehicle Inspections receipts during all his years of ownership and his '68 Florida Plate for the KR that also bear many years of storage dust. Last but not least, pictures of the car when it was new with the owners baby son sitting on the hood, his wife and as well as himself with his new King of the Road. This fully documented factory Shelby according to the Marti Report was well equipped with the GT Equipment Group, Power Disc Brakes, Tilt-Away Power Steering Wheel, factory Selectaire - Air Conditioning, AM Radio, black Deluxe Mustang GT interior Decor Group with 140-mph Speedometer and 8000-rpm Tach, Trip Odometer, Sport Deck Rear Seat, and race inspired Roll Bar with Shoulder Harnesses. Under the Shelby ram air induction hood, lies the original 428 Cobra Jet with a single four barrel carburetor mated to a C-6 Select Shift automatic transmission with a 3.00 ratio conventional rear axle. Additionally, this Shelby retains the steel wheels and factory wheel covers as it came from the factory. A rare find in this factory original never restored state, this Shelby is in remarkably original condition inside and out. The car maintains its original paint, interior, chrome, drivetrain. With close inspection one car see so many factory original features seldom seen including; factory applied red oxide primer with body color overspray and blacked out pinch welds, final inspections marking can be found all around the undercarriage and the factory sloppy trunk finish. For a purest, such an interesting find to say the least, as these types of cars rarely come along. Original, never restored, fully documented one owner KR.
