Vehicle Description
1988 Chevrolet C1500 Fleetside
Fleetside (plural fleetsides) A pickup truck having flat bedsides
(outside quarter panels). The rear quarter panels are flat and run
lengthways along the wheel-well openings. Excludes both stepside
and styleside truck bed styles. A pickup truck is a fleetside
because the sides of the box are flat.
For consignment a slightly older build that is in good shape but
can certainly be taken to the next level. Sporting suicide doors
that open remotely, a custom fiberglass hood, and a smart flamed
two-tone paint job, you can be haulin the feed in style. Do cows
like bling?
Exterior
This self-proclaimed "bone shaker" has been modified from its
original C1500 look just a bit, in the form of body matching front
bumper, horizontal rubbed grille front hiding the headlights behind
it, a dual scooped fiberglass hood, chopped suspension, shaved
doors, shaved rear bumper, and custom vertical taillights. A
resto-mod if you will sporting low profile tires wrapping 20 inch
Eagle Alloy wheels on all 4 corners. Black uppers run down to the
belt line where white, black and copper flames lick rearward on the
belt line. These flames have just a slight highlight of copper
patina green at their edges. Below is bathed in copper and seen are
some rust areas on the cab corner and rockers. This motif works its
way all around the truck with the black on top and copper below.
The bed is black and has been modified to accommodate an air
bagging system and house a fuel cell and air tank for the bagging.
Interesting detail is on the side view mirrors as they are sprayed
in a white ghosting paint, with a skull pattern that one has to
look closely to see.
Interior
In keeping with the custom exterior, the interior has been totally
gutted, and now has 3 tone tan, copper and black door panels
complete with power windows and locks. Black cloth buckets with a
hint of tweed pattern sit within a sea of black carpet. The dash
has been custom colored in tan, copper burlap, and a black
instrument cluster with new Autometer gauges. An Alpine AM/FM/CD
player is installed. Also seen is Hurst Shifter which sits proudly
between the buckets.
Drivetrain
A crate 350ci V8 is under the hood, has electronic fuel injection,
and a 5-speed manual transmission that throws power back to a
10-bolt 3.73 posi pumpkin (literally as it is painted in
copper!)
Undercarriage
A clean black frame surrounds this undercarriage, and a smattering
of copper painted parts is peppered within the framework.
Suspension is airbag, and power disc brakes are on front, power
drums for the rear.
Drive-Ability
A fine runner with some good power, a dream like ride from the
airbag suspension (think Citroen), and an interesting tactile mix
of materials on the interior. Fine handling, easy steering, and
overall smooth experience. It also turned some heads on my way
around our test zone.
Just a bit of rust but not near enough to write this off, you could
buy it and drive it right out of Classic Auto Mall, and it will
give you years of useful life. Or you could take it to the next
level, as most of the hard work has been done. Interesting color
combo, and airbags with custom interior and you are ready to haul
some ass, or at least some groceries.
