1966 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 Convertible
Oldsmobile introduced the 88 badge in 1949. It was named to
complement the already-existing 76 and 98 and took the place of the
straight-8 engined 78 in the model lineup.
A barn find '66 Dynamic 88 convertible. 76,168 miles shown on
odometer, not known if this is actual miles.

Exterior
With fading, inclusions, chipping and orange peel texture the red
paint covers the exterior of this car. Chrome and brite work is
corroded, and has lost its shine in some areas, but it is all
there. Steel panels and gaps are mostly straight and consistent,
and there is some invasive rust seen on the exterior rockers.
Chrome and vinyl trim runs along the sides highlighting the wheel
wells, and belt line and appears in good condition. The convertible
top is smudged, but otherwise in good condition. It is operated
electronically. Some rust is seen on the frame of the convertible
top. Turbine style chromed wheel covers are on all 4 corners.
Interior
Overall nicely presenting black vinyl seats, carpet, and dash.
Interior appears to have been restored more recently than the
exterior (save for the top). The original dash with its centrally
mounted round speedometer, is flanked by two polygonal instrument
clusters framed in chrome trim. The original steering wheel is
wrapped in an aftermarket leather covering, but center of it
appears to be unrestored, with slight cracking seen.
Drivetrain
Appearing restored with new red paint, new engine bay paint, and
mostly unscathed attached parts, this dusty 425 cubic-inch Super
Rocket V8 sporting horsepower ratings ranging from 300 to 370
depending on carburation and compression ratio. The new three-speed
Turbo Hydramatic transmission with torque converter replaced the
Roto Hydramatic used since 1961. This example runs and drives
well.
Undercarriage
Some surface rust (noted on the rockers, and typical steel parts of
the undercarriage) is seen, with mostly structural sound framework,
floor pans, and wheel wells. Undercoating has been applied, and it
appears a newer muffler and exhaust piping has been installed.
A weathered exterior, a nice interior, and a restored engine adorn
this Dynamic 88 from 1966, giving it an overall condition of fair
plus. No known mechanical problems on this Dynamic 88.
