Vehicle Description
1962 Chevrolet Corvair Convertible
NO TITLE-SOLD ON A BILL OF SALE ONLY
Some 8,000 Corvairs were stockpiled at the GM's Milford, Michigan
Proving Grounds in preparation for the October 1959 launch; 250
were "swimmers" (caught in a flood) but cleaned up, reupholstered
and sold. Gas mileage could be as high at 26 mpg. highway, until
the VW-style gasoline-powered heater was fired up at a loss of 6 to
8 mpg. Unibody construction with welded front fenders, a first for
GM, meant that Fisher Body employees aligned the whole car.
For consignment a resprayed 1962 Corvair Convertible which does not
currently run. It has the Monza 900 option with an automatic
transmission, that is in fair condition exterior wise, and fair to
poor interior.
Exterior
An Ermine White respray has been painted on, some of it over rust
areas. Chrome bumpers are dented but show without corrosion or
dimpling. Britework and badging are all there, presenting in poor
to fair condition. A black convertible top appears intact, however
has some insulation? hanging from the inside. The rear window is
fogged plastic and not clear. All the lighting on this car is
untracked and in good condition. A tinted windshield, and a heater
are added options as well.
Interior
With years of neglect, we note missing parts, ripped vinyl, and
taped areas on the seats. This car has two front buckets which
reside very close to one another, and a rear bench, which is not
taped or split open, but is very dirty. An original standard
Corvair padded dash is upfront, and does not show any cracking,
some fading and is all intact, even the original radio. Also noted
is a direct air heater, which will heat, but will also cut down on
gas mileage. The steering wheel is original. Carpeting is original
and appears a bit dirty and faded but has floor mats that are made
from carpeting.
Drivetrain
The standard 145ci engine is fed by (2) 1-barrel carbs and sits in
the unrestored (original) engine bay. It is attached to an
automatic transmission. Be reminded this engine does not currently
run or start.
Overall a barn find condition Corvair, dents dings dust and rust,
and does not currently run.
