Classics, there's always room for something a little more practical
in our showrooms. With upgrades that give this 2003 GMC Sierra LS
Restomod pickup a great look, it could be considered a hobby
vehicle, but given the very reasonable price, the upgraded LS
engine, and heavy-duty underpinnings, this can still be an awesome
work truck for someone on a budget.
The bright silver paint is original, and after nearly 16 years, it
still looks great. Of course, there are a few signs of use and age,
and it has been used as intended, but it has not been a
professional work truck and has never seen bad winter weather after
a lifetime in GA and TN, so it's in fine condition overall. The
single cab look is actually rare to see on modern trucks these
days, but it looks very sporty and harkens back to a time when all
trucks looked this way. On the other hand, with custom touches like
a chrome billet grille and clear lights up front, and a shaved roll
pan and tailgate spoiler out back, it doesn't look very ordinary.
Someone obviously loved this truck and upgraded to the look to
reflect that, and it works well with GM's great build quality. It
doesn't mind working to earn its keep, either, thanks to a rugged
spray-in bedliner, it'll do anything you'd like it to do and look
great doing it.
GM trucks have come a long way in terms of comfort, and this Sierra
is outfitted in a way that would make a Cadillac owner jealous just
a few years ago. Handsome charcoal cloth buckets are all-day
comfortable for long hauls and aside from a few comfort marks here
and there, it's all in fantastic shape. Everything is included,
from A/C (needs to be serviced) to power windows, locks, mirrors,
and cruise control, to a powerful Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo system,
just to name a few. A leather-wrapped tilt wheel, big analog
gauges, and knobs and dials that are big enough to operate with
gloves on, all make this truck feel substantial and durable, and
LED lighting was added inside to give the cab a cool blue hue when
they're on. The wide center console is a practical spot to stash
small items and a set of big cup holders will hold more than you
can on long drives. Safety features like dual airbags and anti-lock
brakes are always a huge plus when buying a late-model collectable,
and heavy-duty floormates protects the original carpets below.
With several miles on the body, the former owner of this Sierra
opted for a power upgrade and swapped in a 6.0L LS that was bored
.010 over and augmented with a larger cam. It runs like a stocker,
but there's considerably more power on tap at all speeds and
despite being a big truck, this rig moves like it weighs a lot less
than it does. They also took the time to tidy up the engine bay,
adding an LQX fresh air intake and inlet tube, MSD wires, and a
Cadillac Vortec engine cover, suggesting that's where the engine
was pulled from. The rest is stock, so it steers and stops well
thanks to sturdy GM suspension parts. The 4L80E 4-speed automatic
transmission was augmented with a Stage 1 shift kit and can more
than handle the added power and improve reliability, and the
exhaust sounds absolutely heroic. It's extremely clean underneath
thanks to a lifetime in the south, and oversized, late-model wheels
were swapped in and carry big 275/55/20 blackwall truck radials at
all four corners.
This is a ton of truck for the money; just the engine and
transmission upgrades cost a significant portion of the asking
