Vehicle Description
Featuring a cool vibe and plenty of curb appeal, this 1978
Chevrolet Monte Carlo wears a fresh, high impact exterior and
offers a very clean and comfortable vintage driving environment
inside its doors. This Chevy's nostalgia-inducing appearance will
draw plenty of admiring glances, while its smooth, solid running
condition makes it well suited for frequent outings.
Recognizing that a ready supply of gasoline might not always be
available due to a series of embargos overseas, Chevy trimmed a bit
of size off the model the year this '78 debuted, but put it side by
side with one of its predecessors and it will be evident that they
left every bit of its '70s style very much intact. In fact, with
its wide track unaltered, the modification actually accentuates its
appealing stoutness. Despite its 40-plus years of service, it's a
fresh, capable looking car, with its exterior refreshed in
eye-catching black paint that's a perfect complement to the
interior and wearing a collection of chrome trim that's in
consistently good shape. Take a closer glance and you'll notice
that this Chevy benefits from a precise body alignment, with doors,
hood and decklid that open and shut smoothly, and body panels that
sit flush with even gaps between them. A pair of ultra-sharp,
staggered aftermarket wheels provide some added flair and will no
doubt attract plenty of attention on the boulevard.
Inside, the teal interior is nicely preserved, with a split bench
seat in front that features a well-fitted vinyl cover with button
detailing, and a bench seat in back that looks nearly unused.
Above, the headliner still fits snugly and the door panels to each
side are fresh and flush to their surrounding steel frames. This
Monte Carlo represents one of those rare instances where a
reduction in exterior dimensions exacted no toll at all on interior
space - in fact the cabin is a bit larger than in previous
incarnations of the model. There's quite a bit of real estate
separating the two rows of seating, so your backseat passengers
will have all the legroom they'll need in this stylish cruiser. The
dash area remains in largely original configuration, with factory
gauges inside the instrument cluster that are still easily
readable, and an AM/FM/CD stereo has been added to tend to your
audio needs. This Monte Carlo also has all of its factory air
conditioning components intact, but the feature will require a bit
of attention to get back up and running.
Sitting beneath the hood in a stock but orderly engine compartment
is a 305 cubic inch V8 that's topped with a 4-barrel carburetor and
mated with a durable TH350 3-speed automatic transmission to make
up a rock-solid drivetrain - this Chevy runs with all the
confidence inspiring smoothness you'd want in a frequent driver and
sends a deep, resonant note out of its aftermarket dual exhaust.
With power steering and power brakes that feature front discs on
board, navigation is easy and the stops are prompt and
fade-resistant. This great looking, late-'70s Chevy rides on a set
of jaw-dropping staggered Billet Specialties Dagger wheels.
