It's a rare opportunity to lay hands and eyes on, much less own a Morgan Motorcar Plus 4 roadster; one of the most iconic and long lived British sports cars. This lovely little car is well sorted and very tidy. And its a strong runner too.

Morgan began production of its three wheeled motorcars in 1910. It wasn't until 1939 that it introduced its first four wheeled car. The Plus 4 was launched in 1950 and variations of the basic design continues today in the Morgan factory in Malvern, Worcestershire, United Kingdom. Still mostly hand built and still incorporating a significant amount of ash wood to support the body work, Morgan, the car and the car company hearkens back to an era when productivity was defined not by efficiency but craftsmanship.

The car offered for sale was rescued in 1990 out of Washington State, moved to Oklahoma where it went through a lengthy period of restoration after which it changed hands, moving to Texas in 1998 where it was enjoyed and then refreshed in 2011. Current ownership acquired the car in 2016 and hasn't driven it 300 miles. No matter how fond the memories and how many boxes it checked off his bucket list at his size and and stature it just didn't work for him and being an avid collector and enthusiast he knows the importance of these old car's need to be driven. As such he has elected to move it on.

Built on a square tube steel ladder frame, the live axle rear end is driven by a 4-speed Moss gearbox. This 1960 model is powered by a 2.0 liter OHV inline four cylinder borrowed from the Triumph TR4, producing 100 horsepower. Considering the curb weight isn't even 2000 lbs this is a very fun car to drive and very quick for its day. Upfront Morgan's unique and exotic "sliding pillar" front suspension and powerful disc brakes made the Plus 4 a competent track car. In fact the Morgan was the original race on Sunday drive on Monday production car.

Mechanically this Morgan is in excellent condition. It starts up easy and idles smooth. The gear box engages well and the clutch takes up nicely. Acceleration, steering and braking are spot on. A full compliment of instrumentation keeps the driver informed. This car shows good oil pressure and runs cool in the Texas heat. Lights, horn and heater are all in good working condition.

Of course what sets the Plus 4 apart is its body work. All of the steel body panels are formed by hand and attached to ash wood inner supports, also painstakingly formed and assembled. While Triumph, MG and Jaguar abandoned the half doors for more conventional all season design, Morgan kept the faith and proved that a classic, wing fendered layout could make for a sound business proposition.

This Morgan is blessed with a very nice paint job, shiny brightwork, clear glass and a plush leather interior. The wire wheels are beautiful and free of any major discoloration or corrosion. The Dunlap tires are only a few years old. Only a few minor imperfections can be found on close inspection. As is evident in the gallery, this car is drop dead gorgeous.

Vintage Morgan Plus Four values fall between early Triumphs/MG's and Austin Healey 3000's. They represent a solid classic car investment, one that if purchased and maintained will never lose money.

This 1960 Morgan is located in Rowlett, Texas and is offered for sale as is where is. We are open to reasonable offers. Serious inquiries only.  A link to many more detailed photos available upon request. Call text or reply.
