Star chief convertible comes from a Colorado consignor who has
lovingly cared for this Pontiac since 1997! He has to thin out his
herd and has entrusted us to sell 4 of his cars. Nineteen
fifty-five was the debut year for the second-generation Star Chiefs
and it was the first year for 12-volt electrical systems at
Pontiac. This example was one of 19,762 Star Chief Convertibles
made in 1955, finished in a striking two-tone combination ? Raven
Black over Avalon Yellow (code 5505). Along with an all-new body,
the straight-eight was superseded by the new V-8 power in 1955.
Typical for the 1955 Pontiac's is the design with two wide "Silver
Streaks" running the length of the hood. The hood ornament ?Indian?
was plastic that lit up when the headlights were turned on. The
paint and trim are in overall very good condition, with some gravel
chips on the leading part of the hood and a few assorted and
insignificant blemishes. There is no record or evidence of it ever
having been in an accident. The doors, hood and trunk line up
perfectly as per factory gaps and open and close as when new. No
worn hinges or body misalignment's can be found on this car and the
body is virtually wrinkle-free. It has clearly been well taken care
of since it was new. The black, power-folding canvas top is in
superb condition with a clear rear window plus a yellow boot with
black binding. The engine bay is very tidy. All side glass was
replaced a few years ago including complete re-chroming of the
surrounding assemblies. Its massive chrome front bumper assembly
has been completely re-chromed to the highest standards. Up front
is a lighted hood ornament while out back are factory optioned
stainless skirts, faux dual exhausts, a Continental kit and
rear-mount radio antenna. This top-of-the-line Pontiac convertible
rolls on Coker Classic wide whitewalls, size P225/75R15 at all four
corners purchased in 2018. Each tire is mounted on steel wheels
topped with factory wheel covers. The wheel covers are in very good
condition. Under the hood is a rebuilt 287 CID ?Strato Streak? V-8
engine with a two-barrel carburetor. It has hardened intake and
exhaust valves to use unleaded fuel. Car has both an electric and a
new mechanical fuel pump. Backing this motor is an overhauled
Hydramatic four-speed automatic transmission as well as a rebuilt
3.64:1 differential. The automatic transmission was a Hydra-Matic
of the ?dual-range? variety, often called the ?slant pan,? based on
its unique case design. Inside, the interior matches the exterior
with original-style, original pattern black-and-yellow upholstery.
The front and rear bench seats are like new, as is the custom-sewn
black carpet. The two-spoke steering wheel is in very good order,
as is the black metal dashboard, complete with its full array of
gauges (all working properly except the clock) and the black and
yellow inner door panels. The original push button radio has
modernized electronic components, optimized to receive AM and FM.
The heater control valve was replaced and for purists, the original
accessory tissue dispenser still works! The mechanism for the
electric antenna works but it needs a new mast. Documentation
includes the previous owner?s logbook beginning in 1956! That owner
recorded every gas fill, oil change and service job for years, and
that log goes with the car. The owner?s manual, rare convertible
top manual, a pile of receipts and a reproduction Pontiac shop
manual also go with the car. The car?s second owner captured images
of the odometer as it rolled over 100,000 miles when driving near
Selden, Kansas in 2011. With the odometer now at 1,091, that is how
many miles it has been driven since then. This car is currently
located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. It is sold as is,
where is, on a clean and clear, mileage exempt title. This car has
been updated to drive in comfort on modern highways: -AM/FM radio
conversion with aux inputs to enjoy your tunes -Hardened valves for
modern unleaded fuel -Electric 2 speed windshield wiper conversion
for safety -New radial wide whites for smooth ride and
straight-down-the-highway driving -New-for-55 12 volt electrical
and automatic transmission means dependable starting and easy
driving GET OUT AND DRIVE!!! VIN: L855H11970
