Vehicle Description
1934 Ford 40 Cabriolet
The 1934 Ford V8 is infamous as being the vehicle in which the
notorious Depression-era bandits Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow
were ambushed and killed. On May 23, 1934, the two outlaws were
traveling in a stolen 1934 Ford sedan in Bienville Parish,
Louisiana, when a heavily armed law enforcement posse opened fire
and riddled their car with bullets and buckshot, killing both and
bringing an end to the infamous gang. Clyde had actually written to
Henry Ford telling him of his satisfaction of the car and its
power!
For consignment, a 34 Ford that, Clyde Barrow, who famously died in
a 1934 Ford, would have given his eye teeth for! Some fancy body
styling modifications, a gorgeous color combination, loads of
power, and a convertible, this sexy street rod is a definite head
turner.
Exterior
All but perfect body panels courtesy Downs manufacturing. The top
is stainless steel and has been chopped 3 inches. The hood is also
Rootlieb steel. All extras like door handles and bumpers and turn
signals have been shaved, and a 4" additional tub was carved into
the rear fenders. Speaking of which they are chromed Real Wheels
with 15 x 6 in the front, and 15 x 10 on the rears which are
wrapped with Hoosier Pro Street's. The car has been bathed in
Burgundy upper body, and Cream lower body. A very nice Burgundy
canvas convertible top is affixed, and movers up and down with
ease. It has a nice tonneau cover, as well as a full car cover.
Interior
Popping the remote activated doors, door panels are revealed, and
these are covered in red leather. They sport billet aluminum styled
door handle and lock. Climbing inside you'll be grabbed up by Red
leather covered buckets courtesy a Fiero. These float within a sea
of red carpet. Reaching from the dash is an Ididit steering column
topped by a chromed Billet Specialties steering wheel. Vintage air
is installed and blows cold. A Downs fiberglass dash front also in
matching red, fronts the seats and steering wheel, and has a
smattering of VDO gauges (Note the odometer does not work...it is
digital and just reads out - - - -.) Keep it simple is the mantra
for this dash, and it could not be truer. Interior of the
convertible top is like new, and chromed hinges are noted. Last but
not least a Kenwood 10-disc CD changer will keep you occupied for
hours on end.
Drivetrain
A Chevrolet 4 bolt main 383ci (consignor stated) V8 complete with
internal mods like Crower crankshaft and rods, J&E pistons and
heads courtesy of Dart. Polished custom valve covers get into the
show on the topsides. A B&M 250 polished supercharger topped by
dual 600 Edelbrock carbs. This is all highly polished bare metal
and presents just beautifully. Bolted on back is a GM 700R-4 TPI
performance transmission with a 2000 stall converter. A Ford 9-inch
rear with 4.10 gears will certainly be enough to make some
smoke.
Undercarriage
As expected with a build of this quality the undercarriage is
pristine. We see a strong frame and bolt on such as a Heidts
Mustang II style front suspension, and a rear 4 link with Aldon
coil overs and an anti-roll bar. Also, a new 21 gallon stainless
fuel tank gleams proudly underneath. Steel HPC coated exhaust pipes
with Borla mufflers can be seen making its way rearward.
Drive-Ability
Actually, Clyde would have given way more to hold under his foot
the power this car offers. It starts right up, and you are provided
with a thunderous growl. Pop it in gear and you will have a very
smooth shifter and a great ride with the suspension setup. Oh, and
did I mention there is some kick for the pants if you so
desire?
A simple but elegant build from a Downs kit car. Meticulous
attention was paid to the details, and as a result we have a well
sorted street rod, looking great, and ready to provide your
getaway, we presume it is a vacation?!
