History of the Jaguar XJR-S Asprey Limited Edition
In order to keep up with other manufacturers, Jaguar launched its own performance tune company, Jaguar Sport, in 1988. The new company was a 50/50 split venture between Jaguar and Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) that was instrumental in the development of the legendary Jaguar XJ220. JaguarSport began offering a tuned version of the popular XJS (the XJR-S) in 1988. The XJR-S initially featured a tuned version of the 5.3 litre V12 engine with body enhancements, suspension and handling upgrades. However, Jaguar increased the engine displacement to a 6.0 litre block featuring fuel injection and added an advanced engine management system in September 1989. These performance enhancements resulted in approximately 320 horsepower and an approximate top speed of 160mph. For 1992, Jaguar decided to commemorate the launch of the XJ220 super car by bringing XJR-S model to the U.S. for the final year of production. Only 100 examples named the Asprey Limited Edition were produced for the U.S. and each received a special number plate in front of the shift lever. With such incredible performance and low production numbers, the XJR-S Asprey Limited Edition is highly regarded by Jaguar collectors and enthusiasts today.
