Located in Phoenix It is bitter sweet, but after 2 years of
restoration, my FJ40 is finally up for sale OR trade for land,
other classic car, or class c RV of equal value. This is one of
those cars you dream about owning, the memories you can make in
this are endless. Back roads, fire roads, Moab with the family,
Sedona trails, drive to california and ride along the coast. My
wife and I managed to make some of those memories already and now
feel comfortable letting it go to it's next family. We poured our
blood sweat and tears into this car and made it was it is today.
I've owned and restored several classic cars, it's my passion. This
is what you would call a resto-mod. I was inspired by what I saw
the company Fj company & Icon 4x4 doing with these vintage 4x4s.
Bigger engines, more capable on the highway: adventure ready, while
maintaining a stock look. This 1976 FJ40 Land Cruiser has been
restored down to each nut and bolt. It was taken apart panel by
panel. Stripped to bare metal. Rust was completely dealt with. New
panels welded into place. Prepped and epoxy primed. Only the finest
materials available were used. I followed Southern Polyurethane's
Painting procedure (many pebble beach cars follow this process). It
was a lengthy process, but my determination was led by the vision
of the next owner enjoying it for years to come, and hopefully
preserving a piece of history for future generations. Following the
epoxy primer, each part was blocked by hand, guide coat was used to
find low spots. The metal was worked until body panels were close
to straight, much better than factory. Gaps, details, and alignment
was important to me and constantly at the front of my mind. Skim
coats of evercoat rage body filler (Highly reviewed, very expensive
compared to other brands) were put across each body panel, one
piece at a time, block sanded to perfection, then the use of high
build primer came into play to hopefully perfect each panel. Again
each panel, one by one, was block sanded to prep for epoxy sealer.
After sealing the body work, 3 coats of heath grey base coat were
used, and 6 coats of universal clear. Color matched raptor liner
was sprayed inside the cab to allow easy washing out. You can hose
it out if you choose to. It's ready for an adventure. This FJ40
features a 5.7L fuel injected GM truck motor mated with a downey
offraod 4 speed transmission (motor has only 16,000 miles on it.
Parts are cheap, readily available in all cities, no waiting. It's
currently geared very low for slowly crawling up technical areas
offroad on it's 35 tires. An upgraded 4 row aluminum radiator is
there for when you're offroad for hours, running the brand new gen
iv air conditioning system. Steering components have all been
raised for additional ground clearance, an overall cleaner look,
and have been linked to an FJ60 power steering conversion. The
upgraded dana 60 axles have had a spring over axle conversion with
a heavy duty wrap bar on the rear axle (limited slip diff) to
eliminate any axle wrap. Everything is very tight, and feels
factory while providing an authentic upgraded land cruiser off road
experience. Rancho 9000 adjustable gas shocks allow you to decide
if you want a tight setup for on road, and then you can quickly hop
out and loosen things up for more flex offroad. This is a very
capable cruiser, but maintains a beautiful original look with it's
oem chrome bezel, new OEM turn signals, brake lights, license plate
lights, oem roll bar, side markers, oem dash setup, telescoping
mirrors, bumperettes, etc... I tried to ensure that I researched
every part before buying to get the best that money could buy. From
the 3m seam sealer, wiring insulation from mercedes benz from
germany, custom slidable side windows, hand stitched crafted black
vinyl interior, lockable custom center console, upgraded 23 gallon
gas tank for long trips, every angle bolt and gasket were
considered. The frame was stripped down, and covered in a well
rated durable chasis saver, and then 3 coats of black urethan base
coat and 3 coats of clear coat for optimal uv and rock chip
protection. The body was coated with black raptor liner underneath
tub and fenders. New fluids, filters, etc... Ready for adventure.
