Vehicle Description
Originally introduced in the mid-1950s, the Toyota Crown was
marketed as an affordable luxury vehicle. Though it isn't a
particularly large vehicle, it sure is a lot in a small package! An
instant hit across many areas of the target market, Crowns are both
affordable and fun today. Believe it or not, this 1991 model is
part of the eighth generation of the Crown. What's that you say?
You've never seen one before? That may be because this is a
Japanese market only vehicle, and was never sold in the US. This
pretty little Crown is an up and coming modern JDM classic! With
just over 119,000 kilometers on the odometer (74,000 miles),
condition is just what one would expect for the age.
This 1991 Toyota Crown for sale may look similar to the USDM Toyota
Cressida, and while they do share a few parts here and there, the
Cressida and Crown are actually completely different cars. This car
is a Japan Domestic Model import (yes, from Japan!) and it is
federally legal having been fully, legally brought into the country
by an importer. Unless you are or know a collector, or are
otherwise an enthusiast for JDM vehicles, this may be the first
you're hearing of these vehicles! This is a subtle vehicle, that
will occasionally turn heads without drawing a crowd. Looking to
drive something unique but fly under the radar? This just may be
the JDM classic for you.
Step inside, and you'll immediately notice that you've gotten into
the wrong side of this car. Since it was originally sold for the
Japanese market, it is right-hand drive (RHD)! This is a fun,
quirky feature of this car (and anything JDM) that is a sure
conversation starter. Driving this Crown is quite the experience if
you are used to LHD vehicles! The interior is in excellent
condition, and is completely original. The original radio was
changed out for a USDM Cressida unit as Japanese radios do not pick
up the full range of US frequencies. The seats, carpet, and
plastics are all in excellent condition and this car is very much a
time capsule back to the 1990s!
Under the hood, you'll find the crown jewel: the supercharged 2.0
liter 1G-GZE Toyota inline six cylinder! This is an ideal choice
for both reliability and ideal power for this car. For being a
comfortable sedan, and not at all a performance vehicle, it moves
itself along nicely! For some drivers, the automatic transmission
will be preferable in conjunction with the RHD aspect of this car
as it makes it easier to adjust to being reverse of the usual
driving position. Besides, this is a luxury cruiser with a
reclining back seat and rear refrigerator, not a race car! That's
right, there's a drink cooler in the package tray that operates off
of the air conditioning system.
As a whole, this 1991 Toyota is in excellent condition as can be
expected for a 74,000 mile vehicle. There are so many neat features
on this car, you'd just about have to see it in person to really
appreciate it! Affordable luxury, Toyota reliability, JDM
uniqueness...the list goes on. It is incredibly clean, both inside
and out, and could easily be taken to the next level as a JDM
classic. A great option for a JDM enthusiast looking to get into
the hobby at a reasonable price!
