Vehicle Description
2004 Mercury Marauder Sedan
Under the definition Marauder we see terms such as raider
plunderer pillager looter robber pirate freebooter
buccaneer...all terms denoting superiority. Aimed at the younger
demographic, sales were less than stellar, and this car was
discontinued after a 2-year stint. Nothing wrong with it, just lack
of interest, so the good news is only a tick over 11,000 were sold,
so now it is on the rarer side, just like I prefer my steaks.
Brought back after a 33-year hiatus, emphasis remained on the
performance oriented full-size sedan. For consignment one of those
11, 000 sold during the 2-year comeback. A one owner car, a mere
18, 683 actual miles, in very nice condition. All the maintenance
records throughout its life have also been retained as well as a
Mercury leather jacket, window sticker, and original owner's
manual.
Exterior
Silver Birch shows up on the exterior of this straight paneled,
good retained gap clearances car. Some black accents in the form of
window, headlight and front grille, add a nice contrast to the
silver. A sunroof (fully operable) is on top. Noted bringing up the
rear is a spoiler, subtle but effective. Peeking out the rear are
dual chrome tipped exhaust pipes, that put out a throaty engine
sound. Don't forget the polished forged 18" wheels all around.
Interior
Opening the door, we are met with pristine door panels mostly in
black with a metal sequence covered plastic accent panel. Also
noted are a gaggle of seat controls, power windows, locks, seat
heaters and power mirror controls. Slipping on the nicely worn
leather buckets we see Charcoal Gray in earnest throughout the
cabin. A spacious rear bench stretches from rear door to rear door
and is nothing but total comfortable with a surprising amount of
rear leg room. Looking forward to the dash, we see white gauges
embedded in front of the driver, AM/FM Cassette, climate controls,
and dual additional gauges monitoring oil pressure, and volts.
Noted additional remote controls embedded onto the steering wheel
for hands on controls. All this floats in a sea of black carpet in
very nice condition.
Drivetrain
Impressive to say the least, we are greeted with a corrosion free,
nice and shiny 4.6 Liter DOHC 32Valve V8. It puts out 302hp and
lives up to its namesake, and then some. Electronic Fuel Injection,
and a 4 speed 4R75W automatic transmission is bolted on the back.
This throws power back to a Ford 8.8" 3.55 geared limited slip rear
axle setup.
Undercarriage
Save for the typical surface rust one would expect from an 18,000+
mile car form 2004, there is nothing to stand out except for the
overall cleanliness, and obviously well cared for environment.
Power disc brakes are all around, and independent front, and 4-link
rear suspension can be noted.
