Chevrolet introduced the Super Sport nameplate in 1961 as an option
to the Impala hardtop. Over the years, the Super Sport designation
has also been attached to the Chevy II, Nova, Chevelle, Camaro and
various truck models. Our garage-kept 1996 Impala SS sedan is a 7th
generation Impala - the last with rear-wheel drive. In essence, the
Impala SS was a high-performance top-of-the-line Caprice that
utilized the police performance package with equipment formerly
available only to law enforcement including sport-tuned suspension,
HD four-wheel disc brakes and a transmission cooler. The previous
owner also added Hotchkis 1-1/2" front/rear sway bars, Hotchkis
X-Tend rear suspension and Bilstein shocks. It is powered by a
383ci LT1 small block built by Golen Engine Service, Hudson, NH.
Golen is a well-respected supplier of GM LT-1/LS-1 performance
engines for street and track applications. The 4-bolt main iron
block was fitted with an Eagle crank, Scat 4340 forged rods and
Keith Black 10:1 pistons. Cast iron LT-1 heads received a 3-angle
cut and new guides/seals. The CompCam valve train utilizes a
.503/.510" hydraulic roller cam and 1.6 aluminum roller rockers.
Tri-Y ceramic headers route exhaust through a SpinTech 304L
stainless system. The package is rated at 375bhp and 440 lb/ft of
torque and, by the sound of it, these are very conservative
figures. The transmission is the 4L60E, an electronically
controlled version of the 4L60. It is fitted with an SFI balanced
flex plate and 1,300rpm stall convertor. The exterior of the Impala
is original, a beautiful factory coat of Ebony Black accented by SS
logos and 17" SS alloy wheels with Nitto performance radials.
Paired with an original gray leather interior, also in excellent
condition, our Impala is a stunner. Comfort features include A/C,
power windows, power locks, tilt wheel, cruise control, power
seats, power trunk release and factory AM/FM/CD stereo. Come take a
closer look at this luxury performance Impala SS 'sleeper'. You
will not be disappointed. ALL VEHICLES SOLD "AS IS"
